Why not make all housing something for the rich? After all its more profitable.

People in San Francisco chose this tbh.

They voted people who made these properties basically skyrocket. Now they are trying to limit the skyrocketing. The only people who will benefit from this are the people who thought moving to SF and Boston and other areas was a good idea just to regret it because the price of housing is so high.

This is hilarious tbh.

Both actually. Usually when I hear rent control bad; they tend to pay far less then we do. Free market won't solve this as the land is way to valuable.

Then stop building luxury housing for rich people and only build affordable housing and if rich people don't like they no longer have penthouses to look down upon the peasants then leave build their mansions in some boring suburb.

Left out the foreclosure bonanza which our current Sec of the Treasure made a fortune. I had a crappy flat which is now going for $3K and that is an area without rent control.

True, but the proposition itself is fraught with problems. By repealing Costa-Hawkins, it gives control back to the cities and counties on whether they want rent controls or not. It doesn't impose rent controls, it merely allows cities the right to enforce unconditional ones, and as Shof said a long time ago, such a provision would easily be hijacked by property developers and landlords, which is another reason that this is going to be so soundly rejected.

Tbf I do agree that rent needs to come down in certain urban areas of the country.

However, rent control is not going to do much to solve the problem. There is already rent control in San Francisco, it has not helped with the problem. In fact, it made it worse as now most prior renters are mostly selling those apartments as condos. So essentially they found a way to beat the system and still make a profit.

No, they oppose our version of affordable housing. Look at places like Houston where sprawl is the name of the game. It may be ugly, and it may not be historical preservation or environmentally sound, but it is more affordable for average people.

That happens precisely because of rent control; investors and developers are seeking the highest returns they can get. Please do a little reading before uttering more ignornance of this issue.
