A Week in a Haunted House

The United Kingdom has many haunted houses, it seems England is one of the world's most haunted place.

Your friend will give you 10,000 USD if you stay one of the most haunted houses in the United Kingdom for a week. The following conditions are further imposed:

1. You must go there and stay there alone.
2. You can't bring anything besides change of clothes, food supplies for a week, and basic toiletries, and a simple camera.
3. You may not leave the haunted house at all for the duration of the week, you must sleep there as well for the whole week.
4. When entering the house, you have to say out loud while recording yourself with the above camera:
"There are no such thing as ghosts. COME AT ME NOW! I DARE YOU!"

If ANY of the above is not done... you don't get your 10,000 USD.

Assume that it is legal to enter the haunted house and take up residence there.

Oh and also... your friend calls you a "chicken" if you refuse. I thought it fitting to mention this.

So, would you do it? Why or why not? Do you believe in ghosts?

I would not do it. 10,000 USD is a lot of money, however, I don't want to be cursed. Its not worth the risk. You cannot rule out the supernatural by default.

Since the supernatural is completely bullshit I'd do it. I've slept through worse things than a few ghosts. Although I am not sure I could get past the entrance phrase without bursting into laughter.

I get paid ten grand to stay alone in a house for a week? Like, away from other people entirely? Fantastic.

Also, ghosts aren't real.

My phone has a simple camera.

I assume that I will get enough battery and data so that I can Netflix for the week.

Otherwise, meh.

I believe in god, but I sure as hell don't believe in ghosts. That'd be a free sleep vacation, and I'd take it. For, 10,000!

Does the haunted house have a tv or something? A week anywhere would get pretty boring if all you have to do with your time is twiddle your thumbs.

Good point. I ain't going anywhere without at least an internet connection and a laptop.

For that matter does it have a functional toilet? I don't imagine haunted houses are all that well maintained.

Well yeah, even if ghosts are real (which I highly doubt, but they make good prank material), I wouldn't fear them. I already sleep in a house that makes every noise under the sun at night (every noise under the moon?), so not much will disturb me.

Lol all these people thinking ghosts aren't real. I'd only do it if I can skip challenging the bastards. Messing with creepy shite like that, and actually calling them out is idiotic.

I wouldn't do that, well, I have more important things to do, like solving issues :geek: , and i don't believe in ghosts, I never saw one, or I think that... :eyebrow:

Well, you have to survive a supernatural threat that could easily kill you, that won't be boring.

A week alone with nothing but a camera sounds incredibly boring. Can I at least bring my eBook reader? Or stay in a haunted house with a library?

Just a little nitpick, but United Kingdom =/= England. Now that is out of the way, time to answer the question.

Yes. Absolutely I would. No such things as ghosts/spirits/phantasms or whatever you want to call them. On condition that they give me £10,000 instead of $10,000, we are in the UK after all...

The food supply for a week includes Guinness :)

I would probably, since you’re giving 10 grand for sleeping outside in a house for a week. Almost no reports of ghosts or anything supernatural involve any physical damage to the victims (In any British haunted house, at least), and only a few tourists that enter these places actually sense or see something supernatural going on. The worst that could happen is lack of sleep maybe, but 10 grand is worth it.

Oh, definitely would. Having a week by myself would be lovely.

I see no relevance in this.

Maybe you're right. British ghosts aren't as hardcore as Indonesian ones.

Assuming A) ghosts are real B) the house in question is actually haunted and C) the ghosts are hostile/violent/capable of actual harm.

Far more likely it’s just local superstitious nonsense blended with an attempt to wring money out of tourists.

Both can have grudges against Dutch invaders though.

I'll have my ration of 6 six packs of coke, thanks.

For a week? Maybe. I’d definitely do it for two days but after that I’d go nuts from no human contact
