MacArthur was not so bad, but it would have been better if it were the British that had occupied post-war Japan. Then they would have probably retained the House of Peers and put fewer restrictions on the power of the emperor.

The emperor already had little power lol Japan was military-controlled during WW2. The military almost stopped him from making peace with the US even after we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I wouldn't be so sure. I could see the British proving more vindictive than the Americans did if they had been the ones who had occupied Japan after the Second World War (which was never a realistic possibility, of course).

I wouldn't be so sure. I could see the British proving more vindictive than the Americans did if they had been the ones who had occupied Japan after the Second World War (which was never a realistic possibility, of course).

Eh, given the immediate post-war unwillingness to deal with the crisis in the British Raj (at least not in a manner that would retain it as part of the Empire), I'm inclined to disagree. The post-war Labour government was a lot of things, but imperialists they were not. Japan probably would have gotten a slap on the wrist, and then handed over to American occupation anyway.
