Unsurprisingly, the ACLU has shown itself to be gutless. The first but definitely not the last. In order to stop government spying on social media, email and of course us reporting each other, it recommends giving into gun control. Gun control is of course the reason Uncle Sam wants to look in on your privacy rather than being the latest excuse. No doubt we will be back to the claims of "muh terrorism", the Ivan's or the good old " if you've got nothing to hide". Why fight spying when you can cave? The modern progressives everyone.

I also meant on a more personal level. The love story between Karl von Habsburg and his wife is incredibly sweet. She was so devastated when he died that she wore black and didn't remarry for the rest of her life (an impressive feat given she was only 29).

Aristocratic republicanism is acceptable at a city-state level. Historical precedent suggests that any significantly larger state either needs to be highly decentralised or a monarchy. See the fate of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Confederate States and the late Roman Republic.

I'm not really in favor of an entrenched or formal aristocracy necessarily, but rather I believe that society should elevate and be governed, when and where possible, by its best, brightest, noblest, and most lofty. Early America provides an example, though, of course, such a system must be adjusted to accommodate modern realities. A cultural shift is a prerequisite to elevating our discourse in the political sphere and all other spheres.

He wasn't a bad king either, his attempts to negotiate peace were very admirable, and it's one reason he's been beatified by the Catholic Church.

No they did fucking awful overall in the great war. Karl's good idea was removing the tool that butchered millions for no gain. Von Hötzendorf was a disaster. All the stupid memes the left has let slander Haig should be applied to Hötzendorf. He really was that guy. Kaiser Franz Josef bears extreme guilt for having let him continue his shit show.
