Tbf it got under a lot of people's skins on both sides. I saw most of the butthurt come from the left, though.
It seemed to particularly upset liberal-leftist-ish Twitter, though, despite them not cracking down any on rampant accusations of people being "Russian bots", which is equally dehumanizing. Since dehumanization is their story for Twitter's staff's dismay at the term, it's most definitely not their full reasoning.

Oh yeah, the Russian bot shit's pretty dehumanizing, like the NPC meme, but, to be entirely fair, there are definitive situations when you can definitely tell that an account's a Russian bot.

Do you guys believe that the United States should sever ties with Saudi Arabia over the Khashoggi Crisis? Not that it would happen, but hypothetically.

They should've severed ties a long time ago.

I'm on record saying that we should support the Hashemites claim to Arabia.

Ottoman claim is better, and even better would be the Rashidun claim.

Scant few accusations are actually in those situations; it's usually "oh no someone disagrees with me THEY MUST BE A RUSSIAN BOT".

You could also make a similar argument for the NPC meme; many people, although by no means all those accused of being NPCs, from an external perspective act very much like an algorithm responding to stimulus based on their programming, generally repeating buzzwords and common phrases predictably in response to certain things (like Trump doing anything, some copy-pasted political pundit saying anything, etc).

Both are dehumanizing, and both have too weak a basis in reality to reasonably get a pass despite that, but Twitter is only concerned with the NPC meme. Really activates the almonds.

Gee, could it be that Liberals usually (not always, but usually in several regards) don't think too deeply about politics (like a fuckton of Liberals on Twitter and Reddit recently scrambling to say that people should even vote in Bluedog Democrats without an actual care for policy in regards to the Kavanaugh hearings) except in regards to doing something as simple as voting and also in defending the status quo with some bandaging of the festering parts of it?

Again, not really. The British were preparing to intervene in the aftermath of Second Manassas, and the French would've surely followed.

Would the British and French have been able to project enough power to force the US to a settlement including an independent confederacy? I'm not so sure.

We were prepared to invade Canada if the Brits intervened, even wrote up plans for it. France was already bogged down in Mexico, Britain's navy would've been outmatched by our green-water monitors, and Germany and Russia, both sympathetic to the Union, would've taken advantage of the shift in power on the continent.

If Britain and France intervened, it's more likely that we'd own significant chunks of, or all of, Canada.

You also have to remember the Union was essentially fighting the war with one hand tied behind its back. Civilian life operated mostly as normal, in contrast to the South.

Oh, I doubt that. I simply don't think British and French intervention would've affected much of anything- maybe a weaker blockade.
Remember, Britain and France are individually much more powerful than the US, especially with half the country gone. I don't think, in light of their other commitments, that they would've been able to turn the tide.

The whole NPC thing is a bad meme, nothing to get crazy over. Though, making your opponents out to be stupid while still yammering about how messed up our political system is is not very consistent.

In my defense, there was a lot of posts directed at me that night so I probably overlooked it. Generally speaking I have no issue with Islamics; indeed, I see several admirable traits among them, in so far as my dialogues offsite with Black Muslims have went. My chief issue with it is that it is not the traditional faith and is, to some extent, at odds with our national background.
