Should heavy metal be banned?

Heavy metal is full of violence and anger. Songs like ‘I’m gonna force you at gunpoint to eat me alive’ and ‘f***ed with a knife’. American Academy of Pediatrics argues the lyrics of heavy metal music influence risky behavior and attitudes, some studies even show heavy metal listners are at a higher risk of suicide and self harm. If it is the government’s responsibility to protect society, should heavy metal music be banned? Clearly, heavy metal should be restricted and controlled, maybe we don’t have to ban all of it, maybe only some? Maybe violence and anger aren’t necessary for musical stlye and we can have decent heavy metal sounding music to satisfy angsty teens. Clearly, music full of rage emotions is not healthy for people to consume.

No, music should be open to free expression.

This is saying that "music that expresses rage incites the populace" with this logic, the only songs we should have are Soviet work songs. Anyway, find me stats on heavy metal that back up that point.

Just because something sounds mean doesn't mean it should be banned. End. Of. Story.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If enough people agree with you, then that style of music will disappear from the airwaves. Unfortunately for the OP, many people do in fact like heavy metal, and it makes enough money to persist in the market.

Sorry OP. You lose.

If weed is banned, why shouldn’t heavy metal be banned? It promotes a culture of anger, rage and nihilism that is harmful.

Thanks for the bootleg and black markets, kiddo. Can't wait to make fat stacks with my overpriced metal collection.

No it doesn't. It's literally arranging some sounds. How many people are "angry" solely because of heavy metal? It's song lyrics. It's not going to kill you.

Weed, a distinctly-recognizable physical commodity, is hard enough to ban. Music is even harder to weed out, especially when it's already downloaded on millions of computers. Even if you wanted to ban heavy metal, you could not. You'd just take it underground and give the composers fuel to make it even more 'hateful'.

Not only is your proposition in violation of free speech, it's also worthless and impossible to implement.

If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it.

Might as well ban Rap and Hip-Hop since most of those songs invole gang violence...

But no heavy metal should not be banned since some people like it why deny them the right to listen to music.

Of course not that is a awful idea. Yes heavy metal is much more intense I guess but banning it for that is a dumb idea. I mean if we do this we should also ban other music genres like rap.

No.

Studies have actually found that, contrary to views that it is nihilistic and harmful, heavy metal may help people process negative emotions and purge anger and depression.

It's a news link, but it says this:

Leah Sharman from the University of Queensland's School of Psychology is researching the impact of music on society.

She said a study of 39 adults aged between 18 and 34 found they were inspired and calmer when they listened to heavy metal.

So, probably not harmful. May actually help.

Also, free expression.

With the same logic, you may as well just ban all music. Or better yet, fun. Literally no fun or pleasure allowed.

But yeah, this idea has got to be one of the more imbecilic ones I've seen. Seems like the American Academy of Pediatrics aren't doing anyone any favours in regards to dispelling stereotypes about American intelligence. Pretty obvious whoever suggested this hasn't actually listened to any decent amount of metal, too.

That study makes sense. Listening to music you enjoy can have a calming effect, and help you smooth out your mind. Anyway:

No. Don't ban heavy metal. Because, believe it or not, it actually helps me to not get aggressive when I'm upset. It's actually very good for that. Also, free expression should be a thing too, and it's really hard to ban music.

No, even really stupid and harmful speech is still free speech. Besides, if the government can ban heavy metal music because it does not like the messages it sends, then the government can then start banning other types of music and other forms of free speech that the government just does not like.
