What I mean is that in real life arguments over political issues tend to vanish (at least for me) to instead be replaced by talking about life experiences, things people enjoy, which place to go to to eat, ect. I've found that in real life after a short time I can agree with most people on most things.

In both cases the individuals were mentally ill and in one case it was a homeless man who felt that all the black people were out to get him.

Do you mainly post to try to "argue/compete" with other posters simply to satiate a desire for conflict/attention?

I find that in real life people are nearly always kind, agreeable, ect and very easy to talk with but on NSG so many posters are exasperating.

Do discussions here have any impact at all or is it just a game to you?

edit: When I say is NSG useless I mean is it useless as a platform for discussion and debate of genuine feelings and ideologies held by posters.

I ask questions for the sake of gathering information. sometimes, my questions are misinterpreted as arguments... but I don't mind really.

Yeah, really, and it matters because hypocrisy and lies are to exposed whenever possible. Even in minor matters, it not only makes for interesting debate, but occasionally leads to a reduction in the occurrence of both (I do not realistically expect anyone, including myself, to entirely stop being liars and hypocrites, and would hope that someone would call me out should I make such a mistake).

Most people aren't attacking you just because they're dismantling your claims. It's not personal. I seems you're used to people ignoring that some of what you say isn't supported by fact, but that's not going to happen here. And not only is going to be pointed out, but if you try to weasel out of admitting it's not founded, then you'll get a increasing aggressive replies to demonstrate the problem. That's what happens when people actually care about getting down to the truth.

No, and I have very little idea why you would come to such a conclusion. Aggressiveness is far removed from assertiveness. The Agressive refuse to respect personal boundaries, and the passive refuse to defend their own. The assertive do neither, they speak their mind, but respect personal boundaries, they don't shy away from conflict due to a fear of conflict, although they may shy away from conflict if it goes too far. They don't refuse to debate, instead changing to 'What's your favorite food?' in all of their conversations.
