One thing I’ll say for Luther is he never intended to separate from the Church, the Church forced his AJ demon that one... but after that he kinda just ran with it.

While true the papacy began closing churches which used the Greek rite within southern Italy I think more of the blame should be leveled against the Legate Humbert for resorting to an excommunication that at the time he did not have the authority to offer.

The Pope and the Ecumenical Patriarch were both under the shadows of their own respective emperors and while Pope Leo IX was a reforming pope and supported the idea of a papal monarchy over Western Christendom the reality was that he still was under the Emperor of the HRE.

Eh not really more along the lines of transforming the office of papacy from one of an elder brother among the apostles and bishops to that of a king. That’s more what I find objectionable of the current incarnation of the papacy. I’m going to throw out a typical Anglican solution we need to find a middle ground between the papal monarchy of Roman Catholicism and the jurisdictional chaos of the Orthodox, Eastern and Oriental.

So what are your guy's Bible Studies plan? Mine is reading three chapters every week day and then five chapters on Sundays.

Honestly I’ve read, studied, and written papers on just about the entire book, so at this point I wait for inspiration on a topic.

I have read the whole thing before, so this time I want to take it slow and chew over everything I read, starting with the writing prophets. I am nearly through Isaiah, one chapter per day. Some of the language is beautiful and inspiring. Some alarms me, based upon current oppression of the Palestinians. Isaiah says in some passages "You will punish and dominate your neighboring nations! It is God's will! You are chosen, after all, while they are not!"

You're not necessarily supposed to read it on your own, that is what the first half of the Divine Service is for, after all, even though it's probably a good idea to at least read it every so often on your own.

That was a really good video! This is the first time I seen this channel and I love it!

Though it does bring up a good topic like the guy in the video said that atheist think the Bible is our only source of evidence that Jesus existed when in reality there are other historical sources that support the existence of Jesus.

I knew of a few of them before I watched the video but never actually read or heard any excerpt from them until this video. It’s definitely interesting, especially seeing how the Christian community was viewed by the Romans and others.
