Possible voting list:

Paul the Apostle
Irenaeus
Tertullian
Augustine of Hippo
John Chrysotom
Thomas Aquinas
Martin Luther
John Calvin
John Wesley
Billy Graham

This list is rudimentary and should have a few changes. Christianity has countless theologians, and these were just a few that I thought of. I made it ten because I'm guessing that is the option limit.

Was Graham really a theologian, though? He was a preacher, for sure.

I was trying to fit an evangelical in there. He certainly popularized evangelical theology and is the face of the movement.

I think you mean was the face :(
I could certainly see a case to be made for him as a theologian though

Maybe you should replace one of the options with other, just in case none of the listed are their favourites.

This is not a Protestant thread (for the most part). We will pick options, and you like them, and you will choose from them and only them!

I’d add Charles Spurgeon and/or Arminius.

We could also do favorite Bible version.

Don't worry, I did too.
Anyways, I'm feeling optimistic about this thread, and how it will be friendly discussion with lot's of humor... or it may just be constant arguing over who is the real heretic. Yeah, probably that.

I think we can exclude dead heresies.

It took me a few tries to get compute that, yeah
The short answer is of course that everyone is a heretic (if you include other major world religions) :p

Nestorianism and Arianism are alive and doing okay.

After some feedback, list version two:

Paul the Apostle
Arius
Augustine of Hippo
John Chrysostom
Thomas Aquinas
Martin Luther
John Calvin
John Wesley
Billy Graham
Other

Arius was added because he led Arianism, a very large heretical movement. Other was added as well.

Possible adds:

Nestorius
Arminius
John Bunyan
Origen
Athanasius
Jerome
Bede the Venerable
Swingli
On and on and on...

+Joseph Smith ;)

Smith isn't very different from Muhammad, and Calvin is intolerable.

I don't think you'd get many votes for Arius. Also I think Eastern Christianity is a little underrepresented (Cyril of Alexandria, Gregory Nazianzen, Severus of Antioch, Gregory Palamas, &c.).

Perhaps it might be worth, given the vast number of potential candidates, having a series of polls for favourite theologians from different eras?

Right, but he's still technically a founder of a branch of Christianity, and agreed on Calvin
