Christians hate Satan, so from that point of view, we should outlaw Christianity.

Rip, may God have mercy on him.

Still holding out for the High Court. Whatever the case, Witness J must be very convincing.

I mean its kind of not hard to hate the original rapist of human innocence.

Speaking of rape, when is it legal for someone to rape me according to God’s word?

I was going to say it's never legal to rape Sartre and why even would you, but then I remember you're a woman. Beauvoir isn't much of a looker too, come to think of it.

One suspects that God would not be inclined to be terribly lenient to one who committed sex offences against children while ordained as a priest.

"May God have mercy on your soul" is a very odd phrase when you think about it, since the implication seems to be "I'd probably let you off the eternal damnation, but I think the Lord could go either way".

Rape is a grave sin and is never legal under any circumstance.

Except when they’re foreign “virgin girl children” (Num 31:15-18) or you pay 50 shekels (Deut. 22:28-29)

Although it's unlikely that most people would have been able to afford 50 shekels, since it was probably somewhere between five months and five year's salary for a labourer in the wide range of time Deuteronomy was probably written. (On the other hand if a standard price has already been put on rape, they might be open to haggling.)

Not an open invitation to rape "virgin girl children" whenever or wherever, nor explicitly about rape.

Literally a fine, a common punishment in numerous cultures before the construction of prisons. Admittedly, forcing the rapist to marry the victim is a strange Judaic law. Perhaps it made sense in the cultural context of the time, certainly not today.

That makes sense for the time, marriage was very much a formal economic transaction. Nowadays, not so much.

I mean considering the alternative in some of the neighboring countries I would rather not have them birth the baby of the rapist, and throw it screaming alive into a pyre like the Israelites would begin to do much later on (to infants in general).

As a former Christian, surely you know the most basic theological distinction between the Old Law and the New Law that is propagated by the Church. In fact, I think you do know and are just posting this to annoy us. The teaching of the Church is clear on rape, that it is a grave, mortal sin and always evil.

It is right to ask for God's mercy for everyone, because Hell should not be wished upon anyone. Christ teaches us to love everyone, even our enemies. If we were to not ask God to give His mercy, and thus wish for someone to be in Hell, that would be having hatred in our hearts against that person.
