It's the public school system. Corporal punishment leads to our MPs getting into masochism.

And censorship laws, for some reason.

Man faces deportation to Malaysia after UK officials refuse to believe he is gay

Apparently you only count as homosexual to the paper pushers if you're in an active relationship.

i read a book recently with a chapter written by an american who moved to canada and thought she really understood canada and their culture. she then realized through her work how fundamentally different the american and canadian outlook on certain issues are and subsequently how utterly screwed she was due to living in canada. she then looked through canada's history and saw that it was filled with dirty bullshit past and present. it was very interesting to read, since it very strongly mirrors what happened to me. i cannot express in words how badly canada is lying to you everytime it opens its collective mouth.

This is the anglo way though, but people figured us out. We basically conquered a third of the planet acting this way. Canada has mostly kept up the tradition and they're good at it.
Dont you understand "rights" is just something you use to gaslight your enemies into thinking the reason you are shooting them is that they are bad people and not actually something consistent and principled?
Gosh.

Our entire history of "rights" is powerful people beating up others and screaming about the rights of the powerful while ignoring the ways they are fucking over others and waffling about it being natural or whatever.

More serious point for the thread...

Should the Independent Group be represented in the next thread poll, or is it too soon?

This thread is drawing to a close during a moment of rare fluidity in the British political landscape, so it might be more difficult than usual to predict the best poll options.

I mean, wouldn't you at least read the wikipedia page when writing your speech? Like at the very least?

I feel for both socially liberal Unionists and socially conservative Nationalists in NI; there aren't very many places for them to go.

And there's the additional issue that 'Liberal Unionist' means something very specific in British political history.

If you're going to be hyper-technical, you could argue that for the brief period between the establishment of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1945 and the break between Tito and Stalin in 1948, Slovenia was part of a state that was within the Soviet sphere of influence.

But somehow I very much doubt that Mr Hunt had this three-year period in the 1940s in mind.

I hadn't actually thought of that! But yes, going by past evidence regarding Mr Hunt I don't think he knew that.

Be fair now. You could employ him at the zoo to keep an eye on the penguins in case they fly away or something. There must be a job out there he won't fuck up.

Bah, basic battle tactics divide and conquer. Set two sides against each other and they’ll be to busy fighting each other to unite against the greater threat.

Or it is more workable. Not sure that's a high bar however. As far as I am aware, May's approach is contradictorary.

Besides, how could they divide the government more, and what would that achieve?

A no deal with the blame placed on the UK? Besides, if the plan is so workable, where is it? The EU does have serious problems with transparency and accountability. And of course, the problem that faces May, (one of the many) what solution to NI did Corbin present that the EU and UK parliaments would accept?

It is a better starting point compared to May's - though that's hardly saying more. Also it'd have been great if he didn't take 2 years to come up with "maybe, possibly, ambiguously like Norway but with EFTA" so we had more than 2 month to consider it.

There are no mutually agreeable solutions, at least.
