Myth. There are speed limits on many parts of the Autobahn.

And in general an advisory limit of 81mph applies. If you fuck up going faster than that you're liable to get clobbered by the law.

Have any of you been watching soft border patrol? It's pretty good. It's a comedy mockumentary about the introduction of a "Soft border" between northern ireland and ireland and how incoherent the view on it is.

“We patrol the border, but we're here to let you through.”

"Phone companies have been very helpful, because ofcourse when you cross the border they switch provider, yeah? So, as part of our border-awareness campaign we decided to text everybody who crossed the border one day with; "Have a fantastic day crossing the border; Soft Border Patrol are here for you.", but that didn't go so well. We got a lot of backlash over that. Turns out people don't like being monitored, or more specifically, they don't like being told they're being monitored, so now we just don't tell them."
Ostro.MOV

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Indeed, just with an important caveat, for the benefit of anyone going to Germany soon and hiring a car. Don't want them stopped by the Polizei, do we? ;)

That is best to be avoided, yes. Tickets for speeding are not a cheap affair over there.

Germany does that thing of fining people relative to their income, don't they?

Quit your job, don't apply for benefits, take out a payday loan to get to Germany and hire a car, get fined for speeding, but your income is negative, so Germany now owes you money.

Take that, Merkel.

Probably how it works according to Fox News Network, but I'm pretty sure things are quite different in real life.

Can't stand the dishonesty of The Economist sometimes. Been a subscriber for years (even if they are often much more right wing than myself), but their recent article labeling him as a "far-left leader" is on the level of Daily Mail dishonesty.

Corbyn is just as left-wing as the standard Labourite before the advent of New Labour, but even publications that are supposed to be "reputable" would rather just dismiss him as a loony.

The Economist has always labelled him far-left. Last year they even had that one issue where the entire front cover was Corbyn in a Lenin pose surrounded by red flags. They love/loved New Labour and frequently wish for that kind of politics. Meh.

If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. Left wing newspapers are just as capable of talking absolute bullshit as their right-wing counterparts. Look at some of the garbage that the independent manages to drag up about Brexit, for example.

From the eyewitness statements it appears there was no braking of the vehicle, just full speed after swerving into cyclists.
