This reminds me of the situation in Gibraltar in 2002. Britain stated it was willing to share sovereignty of Gibraltar with Spain and said that the decision lay with the Gibraltarians, whereupon they held a referendum and overwhelmingly rejected the proposal. Something similar would probably happen should Britain for some reason ever consider sharing or even transferring sovereignty over the Falklands to Argentina. The Falklands would hold (yet another) referendum and reject any form of Argentinian rule and the status quo would be preserved. But really, allowing even the slightest Argentinian involvement in the islands - especially without a referendum - would amount to a farcical political suicide for the British government, considering that the Falklanders prefer to stay with Britain and the memory of the war is still pretty fresh.

false! these are not falklanders ( it is caleed MALVINA!!!) but were brought were after british invaded and deported all natives. it is argentinean land after all, the distance to the country of argentinea and buenos aire is 1000x closer than to britian and london.!!

Stop lying. No natives have ever been deported from the Falklands (because there aren't any natives), it's never been Argeninian land, and once again the closest not-Falklands bit of Britain is 700km closer to the Falklands than Buenos Aires is.

Pretty sure Argentina claims ownership of that bit too.

Friendly reminder that many areas in the south and west of Germany are closer to other capitals than Berlin.

Also, if London was 1000x farther from Stanley than Buenos Aires, either the Falklands would have to be in Argentina itself, or London would have to be in space.

And there are parts of Argentina that are closer to Santiago than they are to Buenos Aires, so must be ceded to Chile immediately under this logic.

Also, Buenos Aires isn't even the closest national capital to the Falklands (that's Montevideo). For reference here is a map of the new borders if we're going by proximity now. I'm sure Western Australia will be very interested to know that it's now Indonesian, parts of Alaska will be glad to hear that they're Japanese, most of Texas will be glad to know that it's now Mexican, and Liverpool will be happy to know that it's Irish.

If we're counting that bit, then Edinburgh of the Seven Seas (best name ever) is closer to South Georgia than Buenos Aires is.

You're forgetting a couple of things. One, the Belgrano was patrolling just outside the exclusion zone, alongside two other Argentine Navy vessels and a state-owned civilian tanker acting as an auxiliary and two, it was under orders given to the entirety of the Argentine Navy to seek out the British task force and launch a "massive attack". These orders were intercepted by British intelligence, and therefore the decision was made to sink the Belgrano, as it was the flagship of the Argentine Navy and it's loss would result in a considerable loss of morale and fighting spirit in the Argentine Navy. Which is exactly what happened.

Mongolia would be a superpower. Truly, Tengri favours his chosen.

South Africa's Western Cape would be delighted with their new border, but it seems cruel and unusual to burden Lesotho and Swaziland with the rest.

Well, the simple answer is to just keep it. Neither Argentina or the United Kingdom want to go through the project of switching land. It takes too long, and neither of them want more work.

The obvious solution is for the Falklands to annex Argentina. There would be the small matter of Argentina technically becoming British territory, but eh, details.

I dislike how some people who oppose the sinking of the Belgrano must seem to think that the Belgrano was on some kind of pleasure cruise in the general area of the Falklands, and that its presence there can be partitioned off from the rest of the conflict. It can't.

Divide that 3398 by 3. That should give you an idea of the original settlers. The other 1/3 are mostly newly arrived opportunists looking for money. If the opportunities never show or dries up, most will be leaving. And the last 1/3 are military troops brought to defend those islands. But the greater majority, if not all, of these military troops will not be staying.

At times its not easy to find exact info. on those islands. But if does seem the military in not counted but in the last island census, which you said gave the islands population has being 3398, for the first time they did count the civilian military workers. They also counted tourists, ship crews and anyone who was standing on those islands even if they were not going to stay. Your 3398 population number even includes islanders that reside somewhere else. In a revision to those numbers at least they did leave out the locals that had left but they still left in the tourists and ship crews.

Got above info. from this site - http://en.mercopress.com/2017/07/22/fal ... ince-1950s

According to the UN, the population of those islands are

Falkland Islands Population 2018. 2,922

In 2013, 85% of the population lived in the capital. The capital is located on East Falkland. While on West Falkland, the second largest islands, they had a population of 100.

Then we have in 2013
A census in the Falkland Islands has found that fewer than a third of people consider themselves British,

Then the island government has this on there official site
Our growing community of 2563 people is diverse; with people from over 60 nations

It is frightening that it is the same kind of excuses that have been used to "justify" all kinds of ethnic cleansing in the past, such as "they aren't natives", "they took over the land", "we originally had the land, you are just interlopers", "the population is there to slight us", "the population is contemptible", etc etc.

And the fact that you want to subjugate 1/3 of the population to annexation by a foreign power and the other 2/3 to ejection from their homes to somewhere thousands of miles away makes your proposal less evil how, exactly?

It is frightening that it is the same kind of excuses that have been used to "justify" all kinds of ethnic cleansing in the past, such as "they aren't natives", "they took over the land", "we originally had the land, you are just interlopers", "the population is there to slight us", "the population is contemptible", etc etc.

And when it comes to the American continents, the only people who truly have the right to complain about the others not being natives and interlopers lack the strength to rectify the situation.
