How's this?
So...modern horse artillery?

Can't find the top speed, but a Humvee at max weight capacity is 55 mph, deployment time is 30 seconds.

Well that explains why you think a technical with a howitzer is a tank.
Now feast your eyes on a real man's self-propelled artillery piece.

tbh that looks cost effective and useful, no wonder everybody hates it.

Problem with Humvees is that they are ridiculously fragile, even the IED-resistant ones. In a real conventional combat environment, they'd suffer critical existence failure the moment they come in contact with an IFV, a light tank or infantry with basic anti-tank capacity.

Depends on who is buying. The Humvee is a multi-role vehicle for a reason: cheaper to chop bits off and stick things on it than design dedicated vehicles to do one thing. Like the Germans sorta did.Uxupox wrote:I dunno maybe something basic such as occupying and seizing an area?
That's what infantry is for. Occupy buildings, fields, ditches on the side of the road waiting for the air force to do the fighting for them (well at least the Americans do).Isilanka wrote:Yeah, because turning the police into a pseudo-military will be so goddamn effective.

The whole point of the Humvee is that most of the time it isn't being used as a front-line combat vehicle. However for most of it's service life it has been used in conflicts that it's original design wasn't intended for. It was an immense improvement over the several vehicles it replaced in service, which were open topped jeeps that had the same basic design layout since the original Willys.
