I said age of consent, not age of marriage.

And I think that anywhere has an age of consent below 16 is absolutely appalling, too. If anything, age of consent should probably be raised. EIther that, or keep it the age of consent as it is but institute a law that puts a maximum age gap of two-three years to prevent older pervs taking advantage of a young girl who's just reached 16.

Back to the age of marriage, and even the age of consent, just because something is what we've always done does not mean it's what we must always do.

A girl (or boy) may marry at sixteen in the UK with parental permission. It doesn't mean I think they should (I now think 18, preferably 21). When I was thirteen, of course I thought it should be allowed. Why? Because I was young, and silly and had my head full of childish dreams of marrying my girlhood crush as soon as I was sixteen and we'd live (of course) a perfect life.

The fact is, I'd have probably fucked my life right up.

We know now -- we didn't when current laws were made -- that teens brains don't finish developing until their 20s. Teens are still impetuous. They don't always understand the strength their own emotions. They find it hard to negotiate. How can a teenager navigate the ups and downs of an adult relationship?

Young marriages (between age 15 and 20) are most likely to lead to divorce (that's why they're called "starter marriages"), and have been found to lead to poverty.

If we know this, why can't legislation be changed?

That's actually wrong. The state of Indiana has the age of consent set at 16 not at 15.

And...I can't read...

Congratulations!

Thank your patronizing progressives for this.

Something's a tad wrong with your priorities if you'd rather a child be wed to a pedophile than be an unwed mother.

How do we know this? Because the first step toward Communism is Socialism, and none of the aforementioned are even remotely Socialist in any way, shape, or form.

Random question. I know that in international law in general the practice is that states have to accept marriages done by other countries on their citizens as valid even if according to their laws such a marriages could not have happened. This of course is mainly a dual citizenship issue. But does this extend to child marriages as well?
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.
