Oh okay. That sounds fun though.

It seems fun until it's continued for years and years on end and you realize that you're mortal. People I know have already had cancer, another is a vegetable in a care home after a car accident, and what have I done? Nothing much. My life is essentially on hold until I learn to weld.

This carpet was hand-woven by an elderly Iranian man many years ago. He spent months creating it, and died shortly after. His children, knowing that this was his final carpet, didn't want it for themselves. They wanted other people to enjoy his craft. So they sold it. It was placed in a nice home for a nice family, and they appreciated the effort and time poured into his final piece of art. But they all tragically died at the hands of a crazed murderer.
The murderer took it. He moved to a place near you, never to be caught by the Iranian authorities. He became obsessed with the carpet. He carried it around everywhere.
He died in a Dollar General while the carpet was perfectly on display.
You came around. You took it for a low price. The owner didn't care where it came from, they just wanted a quick buck.
You took it home.
You disgrace it every day. This carpet has seen all of its owners die. But you don't give a crap, because all you care about is the low price.

And still, even after I tell you this, you won't understand. You think this is all a joke that went too far.
But it isn't. It isn't Nana. It really isn't.

Unrelated to Garden’s post of NS Summer but I often think that we’re the ones perpetuating the meme, talking about it and considering certain things part of it, more than it actually happening. I mean, yes, we get bad threads around this time of year but I don’t know. Perhaps I’ve been here so long now I just ignore it.

Don’t get me wrong. You can joke about it. And I get what you’re saying. My observation was not because of your joke, but because I see the meme brought back every year and I do wonder. Like Farn said, it seems jus a self fulfilling prophecy more than it happening in reality. But maybe I’ve also been here so long it just perhaps doesn’t register anymore.
