I live about a mile from the county courthouse. Another question, I need to register to vote in Buncombe County, as I'm still registered in Rowan County. I did mail ballot for the 2016 election, but would like to vote locally this November. How would I do that?

And if I remember properly, you're very involved with the Democratic Party in the Raleigh area, right? How would I go about getting involved on such a level with the Democratic Party here - if I so decided to finally commit to a party?

The Young Democrats of Buncombe County are one of the most active chapters of Young Democrats of North Carolina, their event calendar is here. I would either go to a meeting or email them and they can help put you in touch with opportunities to get involved. You can also get involved with the county party itself -- they have a "join us" page here and an events calendar here. Going to a few events and meeting people is a great way to be sure you'll be aware of volunteer opportunities, trainings, candidate meet-and-greets, etc.

It wasn't until they Gerrymandered the district (Mike McIntyre's) that I was, for a time, suddenly in the 3rd district being represented by Walter B Jones. Then I moved back into the 7th but by then it was a definite Rouser district because gerrymandering.

Here in Pennsylvania, the state supreme court redrew our districts and they've stood court challenges.
