What would be a good "starter gun" for someone whose never owned one before?

Honestly LV, there's starter "plinking guns" such as .22 LR pistols and rifles and there's "starter guns" which are just your normal pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc. If you aren't just going to use this firearm for target plinking and are considering buying a firearm for use as a self defense or anything else tool, I'd recommend going a bit bigger and getting a non .22 LR firearm.

The RN-50 would still be a great investment. The key to surviving range day with it would be making sure your ammo is safe to fire.

On the other hand, finding out what kind of powder charge was in that SLAP round might come in handy for improvised grenades. That shit could’ve taken down an airplane if more of those rounds were over pressured and were fed into a gun built to withstand them.

Np. I mean hey a cheap M1911 just works at about 400-500 bucks. The problem is nowadays is ammo prices, at least with .22 lr it still costs me 150-200 AUD for 1400 36gr JHP .22 lr

The ammo market is 100% fucked right now. Unless you're an ammo mfg yourself or there's a small out of the way shop near you then you're gonna have a hell of a hard time finding anyone other than exceptionally niche rounds. I'm pretty sure a week or two back a site sold out of 100,000 rounds of 9mm just over 120 seconds after listing it.

I just place my ammo cans next to my firearm safe and on shelves out in the reloading room. I also place a desiccant bag in each ammo can.

There are better first timer rifles out there than a Mosin, especially for the cost that people are asking for them now.

I remember the first time I learned about "trigger discipline" years ago. Ever since then I instinctively look at a shooter's hands in video games, movies, etc. to see if they're using it at times when it's most appropriate. Now whenever I see some fuck nugget in a work of fiction with no trigger discipline I mentally scream at them. That one scene (you know the one) in Pulp Fiction in particular convinced me of how important trigger discipline is. I literally can't not notice anymore. The inverse is also true: if I notice good trigger discipline, I mentally high five the character. "Ayyy this guy fucks!"
