While I understand that and support. I always buy ammo whether I need it or not all throughout the year, that way I have a nice stock pile and don't need to worry about panic buying.
The ol parable "The Ant and the Grasshopper" has always stuck with me.

Getting my AR before the elections and did the math and it's cheaper to run steel case since even though wear and tear, the cost diff will make more money stay in my pocket even if I have to replace the barrel, gas tube, and BCG.

That seems like a good way to save some money. 10,000 rounds ought to last you years if you ration it carefully.

I don't use steel cased ammo, so I have no experience, but I have heard that they don't cause any undue wear, being mild steel.

Me, I have some 4,000-8,000 round of .22 LR. I traded my last .22 for a .44 revolver some three years ago..

Since I collect cartridges, I have a few hundred miscellaneous rounds lying around.

For the guns I actually own, at last inventory (I need to do it again, it's been almost a year) I had around 10,000 rounds split between .327 Federal, .32 H&R, .44 Spcl, 9x19mm, .357 SIG and .223. About half is .223.

U.S. Firearms Sales: February 2020 Unit Sales Again Increase Drastically

Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF) estimates February 2020 U.S. firearms unit sales at 1,357,643 units, a year-over-year increase of 17.3% from February 2019.

Likely single handgun sales (793,301) increased year-over-year by 19.5% whereas single long-gun sales (441,516) increased year-over-year by 12.4%. All other likely background check-related sales (122,826) increased year-over-year by 22.1%. This includes so-called “multiple” sales where the allocation between handguns and long-guns cannot be determined from the data record.

I also suspect the continued firearm purchase drive is by mostly women, since more and more women are taking firearm self defense classes.

Women and minorities are two rapidly growing segments of the market.

No. One thing I am looking into is a snubbie revolver. .327 or .357. Good for pocket or ankle carry.

Also thinking about getting an AR10.

When compared to the 11 days before February 23 (February 12 to 22), in the 11 days after (February 23 to March 4), Ammo.com's number of transactions increased 68% and the company has seen a conversation rate increase of 45%.

Alex Horsman, the marketing manager at Ammo.com, said of the surge, "We know certain things impact ammo sales, mostly political events or economic instability when people feel their rights may end up infringed, but this is our first experience with a virus leading to such a boost in sales." Horsman continued, "But it makes sense. A lot of our customers like to be prepared. And for many of them, it's not just facemasks and TheraFlu. It's knowing that no matter what happens, they can keep themselves and their families safe."

I know Philmont Scout Ranch out in NM still has a .30-06 range and use .30-06s. If you poke around their website towards the end of summer, they occasionally sell off .30-06 reloading equipment, rifles, etc.

I don’t know specifically about the MAS-36 screws but the sentiment behind this comment is so accurate it’s not even funny. Older French rifles and handguns seem to have been designed for maximum incompatibility - right down to the smallest detail - with the rest of the world in mind. I’m almost wondering if this was intentional.

Pretty much intentional as a means of making it tamper-resistant via making the screwdrivers exceptionally rare and non-standard.

The electronics industry is the same way except the housings are sometimes plastic and you can probably just wriggle things loose or into place with the associated pucker factor of tugging at a live 480 volt line since none of the screws were properly torqued during the initial instal to begin with.

.30-06 is still a darn good cartridge for any game on the North American continent. Dependingon the nature of the zombies, it might actually be overkill.

Sure it's a darn good one, but over a century later we've darner gooder ones available that do the same job better.

Sure it's a darn good one, but over a century later we've darner gooder ones available that do the same job better.

Well a lot of good classic weapons are chambered in it. And I try to keep my weapons chambered in common calibers as much as possible. I try to avoid unusual and exotic calibers because of expense and availability issues (and if someone mentions I do want a rifle and revolver in 460 S&W they can fire 45 Long Colt and 454 Casull, which is one reason it is superior to 500 S&W).
