Maybe... If this was the Wild West, but this is home, your vaterland, therefore I prefer bolt-action with bayonet on the end, that way in case you miss and chambering a round takes too long (because you are not Chad Prussian with your 150% Drill) due to the eindringlinge being closer than wanted, you could always run them through. Guarantee any friends of his nearby were to see that, they would shit pants and run for fear of being impaled.
On serious note, if shit shot (due to fear or adrenaline) then get a semi-auto or even lever action, however, depending on how spacious and open your house is, then that would depend on the gun. For small home with narrow corridors and small rooms, shotgun without butt-stock and has pistol grip.

My dream home defense weapon is a Winchester M1912 trench gun with a M1917 bayonet.
Because when Chad Prussian and his 150% Discipline thinks that using it is a war crime, you know you're doing something right.

Like I said above, the only real difference is the internal hammer in the M1912.

If that is all you have, but I personally consider anything smaller than a .380 to be a last-ditch, deep concealment backup gun. I wouldn't like to depend on anything smaller than 9mm as a primary.
Oh, and I include rifles in my bore preferences, although the range for them is .30 and smaller, .44 and lareger. I love the .17s and the .204. The middle bore rifles are a stronger meh in my book (again, with exceptions).

I'll keep that in mind. What don't you like about the medium bores?

I have a .25, but it is certainly a deep concealment backup.
I carry it to the beach and stuff like that.
