That was months ago. Yet this abomination is still on track to being passed by JLEC and Parliament as the Council already made their stance in support.

I found this article online. It is a little old, but say it gets passed, can courts in individual nations mark it invalid due to violation of human rights and freedoms? I don't live in Europe, so I'm not 100% sure how this works :unsure:

I'm glad that word is getting out, but I think enough lawmakers are too stupid enough buy the lies of these companies. If America can ignore citizens without facing consequences, then certainly the EU can...

Christ. Imagine Nationstates having to have a content filter and having to pay link taxes. Heck, I would put up a whole bunch of links out of spite.

The fact that if the articles passes all websites, such Nationstates, would need to get a YouTube-style content filters that would filter out so-called copyrighted material regardless of what it actually is because robots are dumb.

Indeed. Everything that negatively effects the internet like this thing negatively effects all users, be they american, European or Chinese because it irrevocably transforms the online landscape.

So if you live in the EU this is as the british would say the time to mail your MP.

I am sure the EU didn't mean for Article 13 to sound like that, but they should probably take a good look at Article 13 again to make that all concerns are resolved.

However, the internet as a whole is facing more serious issues other than copyright alone: namely violent extremism (Islamic or right-wing), cyber-bullying, cyber-sabotage, data insecurity, fake news, and so on.

It is tempting to think that the best solution is to ban public access to the internet to protect democracy from all that. I completely understand that temptation, but I am still on the fence over the credibility of the internet for the time we live in.
