That sucks. They have a right to religious freedom. If a Catholic can wear a cross, a Muslim should be able to wear a Burqa.

The burqa is neither a part of Danish cultural heritage nor is it as subtle as a small cross, however.

They’re all bad without context. People just think burqas should be an exception because of religion.

It's absolutely not, there are LOTS of laws against having your face covered in public, they're called anti-masking laws. In fact this and most "burka bans" are just laws that don't give a religious exception.

So, let's ban ski masks. And motorcycle helmets, because of biker gangs. And hoodies, because of gang stereotypes.

That's what they fucking did. If you're not on a motorcycle you can't wear a motorcycle helmet, that's mentioned in the article that people aren't reading.

Even on motorcycles. /s

But anyway, just ban all facial modifications that obscure a person's face (not articles of clothing), and then upgrade the CCTV to the point where it's just China, but European.

This is simpler and cheaper. I don't like the laws but I like irrational arguments less.

I Should have sarcasmed that entire thing.

But, in total seriousness, I understand it's to prevent people from hurting others behind the veil, but I'd honestly rather specific restrictions than a blanket ban of full-face coverings. And, this violates freedom of expression/religion.

To what purpose? If the issues is people covering their faces it doesn't actually matter what they're covering their faces with. I don't think there should be a religious exception, it would take the teeth right out of the law. I do however think people should be allowed to wear what they want and I don't believe the public need to see the face of a person who is hasn't been convicted, accused, or even suspected of a crime should outweigh that person's right to do what they please.
