Muslim women wear burka to show their devotion to a patriarchal all-powerful god who tells you need to hide your skin and hair if you are a woman. In what sense is that feminism when you worship that kind of god and feel you need to cover up to please him??

If that was really the issue, they'd have also banned Catholic nunneries.

Except that Catholic countries didn't punish all women for not dressing like nuns. Unlike Islam, which wants it incorporated into the law, and expects women to be "modest" because they're women. That's sexism based on religious grounds and a violently patriarchal belief-system. I just can't get my head around how you can be a feminist and support the burqa - it's doublethink!

Denmark's most pressing issue in regards to the Islamic community is related more to parallel societies forming. Recently the government announced a plan to combat such, the lawlessness within certain areas, the removal of ghettos, better planning, immigration reforms, ect. Things they and many nations should have done forever ago.

I don't support the burka, nor am I a feminist. I support it remaining legal as a choice for devout Muslims.

I agree, but part of that debate is going to be the Danish standard of treatment of women as opposed to a great deal of the third world from where said immigration, and unsuccessful integration, has come from. And nothing hampers that debate more than this cake-and-ass party of equating the veil with liberation and choice. It's historic and modern precedence is largely the antithesis of such.

The burqa and niqab are symbols of oppression.

Like underwear, stars and dollar bills. We should ban those as well.
