Yes, they should be honest that this is an ethnic problem.

Pretty much.

So racism and security theatre at the expense of people's rights?

Disguised as women’s rights.

You know, rights go several ways and banning the burqa and the niqab takes away choice.

Er, she has spent time in France. Hence why she’s writing that. But fine, discard it all you like. I’m sure that you know better than someone with credentials.

I don't see where in the article it says she has - only the UK and the USA. UNIFEM, despite its French name, doesn't seem to have any offices that are actually in France.

Yeah, this law will truly shake the foundations of Danish society, eh?

So why pass a law to tackle an issue that doesn't really exist?

Because it's an ethnic problem but the politically correct politicians don't want to acknowledge that.

With the work she did for the UN, she spent some time in France. Let me find the info.

That law appears to have been preventive, not reactive.

I mean, she's a Muslim, so perhaps she has more insight into why Muslim women might choose the burka or niqab than we do.

She certainly has a way more balanced opinion than your reactionary ones. But then again, I’m not surprised. You were ok with Le Pen eliminating food alternatives for Jewish and Muslim kids in the counties she and her party had control over. Even the ban on them bringing their own lunch. So yes, her credentials are better than your emotional reaction.

Sadly, my home country is reacting this way too and I fear for the shithole Europe may turn into if it doesn’t stop reacting violently to minorities.

That's wholly subjective.

But then again, I’m not surprised. You were ok with Le Pen eliminating food alternatives for Jewish and Muslim kids in the counties she and her party had control over. Even the ban on them bringing their own lunch. So yes, her credentials are better than your emotional reaction.

From what little is actually said in the article that's specifically her opinion instead of "oh uh eh oh uh francs is doing an uh eh bad thing??", hers is basically "please no make oppression illegal"

Sadly, my home country is reacting this way too and I fear for the shithole Europe may turn into if it doesn’t stop reacting violently to minorities.

Europe's already a bit of a shithole, this "emotional reaction" might actually make it better. I'm not even going to comment on the underlined.

She’s Muslim. Not to mention that no, she never asked for oppression to be made illegal. She stated very well that instead of seeking to make this into a woman’s rights thing, to see why it could cause problems with integration.

No religion should be above the law. If you intend to live in a culture that is different from yours, you should assimilate. Islam has nothing to do with European culture and history, it only creates division and ghettoization. Muslims should be as willing to be tolerant of our traditions and beliefs as we are of theirs, but that's not the case at all in Europe. In Muslim countries it is illegal to be gay which is punishable by death on religious grounds, yet here we're more outraged about banning a niqab and burqa. It's incomparable. "Some cultures are better than others." You can't have it both ways. Muslim countries aren't integrating our beliefs or culture or rights in their laws, why should we?

Turks, Pakistanis, Moroccans, Arabs, etc., whether or not they wear traditional religious clothing, would be better off if they could be in their native lands and not have to worry about certain countries treating them like a bombing range.

Someone already provided a link proving that several women who wear the Niqab are doing so out of choice.
