Actually, that should have been the plan back in 2009 instead of the fucking bank bailout. The people who lost their houses would have given their $$$ to the bank and kept their houses. The rest would have bought stuff. That was the way it would have worked out best. Instead the banks took it all directly from the Fed. Gov. and bought up the smaller banks. Such assholes.

Another bad recession would also be pretty catastrophic. I wouldn't be surprised if the deficit goes through $2 trillion in the next recession. The Fed will also probably be forced straight back into QE, since interest rates are still pretty low.

and Germany has a surplus.

Apart from Japan, Brazil and Argentina, America has a bigger deficit than any other major developed nation. One thing I do respect conservatives for is their foresight regarding national debt. Conservatives in Germany, France and the UK seem to make genuine effort to rein it in. US "conservatives" on the other hand just cut taxes and watch the deficit explode.
