Trump is actively trying to make Iran look like the better side in this conflict as it is. I am pretty sure at this point his Cabinet are seriously considering taking away his tweeting privileges as they did in his Campaign. Seriously, what the fuck is "NEVER EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN"? and right on the eve of Pompeo's relatively insightful (and surprisingly accurate) speech?

Trump clearly wants to meet with Rouhani, but also doesn't want anyone to think that he's asking for a meeting. It's like something out of an episode of Friends, but far, far worse.

Republican politicians are politicians because of republican voters. They elect them, support them and keep them in power. They obstruct things like the ACA, support cuts to spending and tax cuts for the rich. It's their own fault that they don't have universal healthcare as in other countries and no one elses. Why should the rest of America suffer for their stubbornness?

So leave them to a lower life expectancy instead of...trying to find some way to compromise reasonably?

Compromise how? The election of Trump shows that republicans have no interest in compromise. Their priority is beating democrats. Principles come last.

McConnell said it best. Their priority is to run democrats out of office and out of power. Compromise never occurred to him. Republican voters enable this because of their focus on cultural issues (e.g. immigration, guns, abortion). That's their choice but I fail to see why people in California or New York who want politicians who will try to improve their lives should suffer because 30-ish percent of the population would rather be deprived of cheaper healthcare than gun access.
