Team owners are investors that own the revenue generation of a team's brand.

Think of it like a franchised burger joint. The team owner is the franchise holder, the NFL is McDonald's Corporation.

I'd also point out that unlike Joe Blow who owns a McDonald's franchise, Joe Blow who own's the Bunfuckville Badgers can't have his team pulled unilaterally for non-conplience, he just gets a penal fine.

So if Joe Blow is willing to foot the bill for the Badgers kneeling whenever the anthem plays. He could do that.

I dont get the rationale behind this at all. Trump wants to ban all German Cars from the US. They have manufacturing plants here which their closure would hurt the local economy and thats not even mentioning all the dealership jobs that will be lost. How anyone can still vote Republican or support him is beyond my comprehension at this point.
