One man, one vote. No rural votes, no rural people. Urbanise the countryside.

What about the Natives and the Amish? They live in rural areas. Also, urbanizing the countryside would probably destroy the agriculture industry because not even hydroponics and aquaponics farms replace and produce the level of food necessary to feed an entire nation and help export the national food. You'd also be killing a lot of species that may live there. Urbanizing the countryside doesn't seem like a good answer to the problem for me, my friend.

You don’t. People are leaving those towns in favor of cities but somehow that town is entitled to more representation than a city of several hundred thousand or a million

There's a reason we have bicameral legislatures at both the state (except Nebraska, fuckin' Nebraska) and federal level.

The same way natural resource extraction is urbanised: 2 weeks in and 1 week off to blow it all on cocaine and fast cars.

Righteousistan wrote:Glad I caught this thread. We have a somewhat similar problem here in Virginia.

The crux of it is the lack of a Republican urban policy. You couldn't raise taxes and government spending high enough to fix the ills of places like Detroit, Camden, Chicago, etc. The GOP needs to devise a private sector-driven, tax abatement-induced, blueprint for taking on urban blight. Clearly the classic Democratic Party way has been an abject failure.
ok
so what does that mean
"Something something tax and spend is bad something"

I think they're saying that the Republican Party needs an urban strategy instead simply handing the Urban vote over to Democrats.

Thing is, that's kind of a hard strategy, sure they could go all in on social issues and maybe win over some of the urban well off and the urban rich, but that'd piss off the Religious right, and the Republican opposition to Welfare means they have little chance of winning over the Urban poor who make use of such things.

Problem is I think some cities like Detroit are utterly unfixable no matter what party takes power.

I still question that state's existence.

Ironically they're moving to states and bringing their politics with them causing their new neighbors to hate their guts.

No, you don't. Having a vote doesn't actually mean your voice is heard in any meaningful way, and you inevitably end up having your decisions made for you by people who don't give a fuck about you, don't understand you and don't want to. Which is the point.

So, no, you don't understand it perfectly. Glad we could clear that up.
