I'm not sure how that stat can be accurate. There has been only one recorded instance of a person being hit by a rock from space in US history and she survived it yet thousand of people are killed by armed criminals in the US every year.

It's a fun hobby. So are fast cars. If you're going to have a hobby that carries an inherent risk, as that hobbiest you work to mitigate that risk like Wally Parks did with the NHRA that allows you to keep doing it...but instead they've adopted this hysterical screeching that was just too embarrassing to associate myself with. I just couldn't do it anymore. Without the input of actual gun owners and users the measures are going to be clumsy, sometimes less effective than cosmetic. But this is what they've asked for by giving up their seat on the table in lieu of putting their pants on their head and running up and down the hallway screeching.

A bulky part of it is, actually. Chicago alone has around 700-800 gun homicides yearly, which answers for a tenth of the 8000 deaths caused by armed crims.

After the recent Southwest Air engine explosion, the FAA ordered inspections of all similar engines. In fact, this is why there are so few aviation accidents: persistent attempts to reduce them.
