Claiming that the school's carpark is like claiming that mynaturestrip isn't my land. Whilst it technically isn't, anyone could reasonably suggest it's close enough

At this point we really need a school shooting megathread. We get like one thread per day on this thing.
Yesterday I was reading yahoo news and the articles said: Coverage of deadly school shooting in america. And my brain just autocorrected it to daily instead. It felt so natural it took other people pointing it out for me to notice that was not the actual title.

They are regular solely because US has 325 million people. Truthfully, when you analyze the risks:

Students killed by school shootings since 2012: 150 (25 yearly on average)
Number of students in the US: 50 million
Yearly risk of being killed through a school shooting, as a student: 0.5 micromort
Average walking distance to school: 5km (2000km a year, considering 200 school days and going back home)
Risk of being killed by walking 1000km: 44 micromorts
2000km = 88 micromorts

In other words, a student is 170 times more likely to die while walking his way to school and back home than being killed by a school shooting. Really makes you think, huh?

That if you try and turn tragedy to a statistic you can be flippantly dismissive of loss?

Funny because my local news stations haven’t reported it as such. Hell its not even headline news. In the US anything outside the school isn’t considered the school

Do people in Poland, even in the worst neighbourhoods, have to fear being shot? Hell no.

Does Poland have less than a sixth of the US homicide rate? Yeah.

US South - so far down the gun crime shithole, some can't comprehend not having that violence.

If you think the US South is bad then you should go to the US north. Go to Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and DC. There are close to five hundred murders a year in Chicago, Atlanta only had 33. The Atlanta Metro only had 100, but the Chicago Metro’s number skyrockets to 700.

There are entire neighborhoods of Chicago that the police won’t go into in Chicago. The only city that could possibly come close in the US south is Miami. And don’t forget that LA is a crime shithole as you put it. Gun murders are so fucking common in Chicago that the local news hardly reports on any murder that doesn’t involve three or more people.

So check yourself before you wreck yourself

Hey, let's not compare Chicago to LA, or any Californian Cities. We're not that bad. We're nowhere near that bad. Maybe if you take a really fucked up city like Compton or Victorville, but short of that, it ain't Chicago out here. Chicago proves that blue on blue crime beats red on red crime. There is no scientific analysis that states pit-bulls are more aggressive than any other type of of dog breed.

Sort of. While the US is about five times more murderous than Australia by population, it's also about fourteen times larger. So, yes, we have a lot of shootings that aren't news... but even if we had Oz's murder rate, we'd have a lot of shootings, and given the size of the country, they probably wouldn't be news either.
