Another USA school shooting in the past 24 hours when shots were fired in the parking lot of a Zion High School in Georgia during a graduation ceremony. This incident is unraveling now, but so far, we have 3 people shot, one of which is a pregnant lady. Of the three who were shot, one died and another is injured

Why is this news? It’s not a school shooting. Far from it. It’s most likely some idiot parent has a beef with someone or it’s gang related. It’s Clayton county for Gods sake.
It’s just another shooting in the Atlanta Metro

So in addition to school shootings, we got regular shootings that aren't even news? You guys have got a real problem with violence

They are regular solely because US has 325 million people. Truthfully, when you analyze the risks:
Students killed by school shootings since 2012: 150 (25 yearly on average)
Number of students in the US: 50 million
Yearly risk of being killed through a school shooting, as a student: 0.5 micromort
Average walking distance to school: 5km (2000km a year, considering 200 school days and going back home)
Risk of being killed by walking 1000km: 44 micromorts
2000km = 88 micromorts
In other words, a student is 170 times more likely to die while walking his way to school and back home than being killed by a school shooting. Really makes you think, huh?

That if you try and turn tragedy to a statistic you can be flippantly dismissive of loss?

It's called living in a big US South city.
Spent some of my life in Warsaw (over a million people), and being shot was the least of my worries.
Likely because you need a gun permit in Poland.

I’m never worried about being shot. This wasn’t a school shooting dude. Most likely it was gang crime.
And I don’t believe you if you don’t have any gun related crimes.

As you wish.

In the top 10, there is only 1 blue state (NM, #9), and only one purple state (and no red) in the bottom 10 (Iowa, #41).

Are you getting that information from the one about accidental gun deaths? Or the one about murders? Because I’m terms of murders DC which is blue ranks #1, IL isn’t far behind, as is CA.

Do people get shot in Poland? Yes.
Do people in Poland, even in the worst neighbourhoods, have to fear being shot? Hell no.
Does Poland have less than a sixth of the US homicide rate? Yeah.
US South - so far down the gun crime shithole, some can't comprehend not having that violence.

If you think the US South is bad then you should go to the US north. Go to Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and DC. There are close to five hundred murders a year in Chicago, Atlanta only had 33. The Atlanta Metro only had 100, but the Chicago Metro’s number skyrockets to 700.
There are entire neighborhoods of Chicago that the police won’t go into in Chicago. The only city that could possibly come close in the US south is Miami. And don’t forget that LA is a crime shithole as you put it. Gun murders are so fucking common in Chicago that the local news hardly reports on any murder that doesn’t involve three or more people.
So check yourself before you wreck yourself

The problem is guns, and the states having problems with noticing that are a part of it.

No it’s not. Unless you want to be a manipulative person.
There’s a big difference between an accident, suicide, and murder. The fucking law recognizes it, the people taking the stats recognize it. Apparently you don’t because then you don’t get to claim that it’s a national issue and just a red state one. So you’re being manipulative.

If that was the case Chicago, DC, and LA wouldn’t be always in the top 10 most dangerous cities in the US list. Because each one of them has attempted to ban guns but it hasn’t worked.

I'm talking about guns being a problem in general - and they are a key element of all those things.Thermodolia wrote:If that was the case Chicago, DC, and LA wouldn’t be always in the top 10 most dangerous cities in the US list. It can't when there is already a ton of guns in the cities, and they can be hauled in from somewhere else, assembled from parts or bought online.

We have a thread for gun control. This honestly should have been posted there as it’s not a school shooting. As it didn’t happen on school grounds
