This is no classic but Denmark are doing better than I expected. Yes their goal was a bit flukey but they've held their own in a game where I thought they would struggle to make their mark and not give Croatia a great deal of trouble. They're growing in confidence and this is anyone's game right now. If Denmark want to score they should get Martin Braithwaite off, such bad ball control and his shooting is wayward.

Shofercia wrote:I was referring to this World Cup, rather than every World Cup dating back to 1930. If I had a dollar for every time a poster on NSG claimed that they totally had a response, but cannot post it, ever, due to time constraints, I'd actually be making money from NSG.

You called playing for the draw a "fresh new look at the game", which it isn't. It happens pretty often. If you really want I can name some examples I guess, didn't seem necessary was all. Just from this World Cup I can think of a few. Saudi Arabia against Russia, Saudis vs. Uruguay... Iran in all three of their games, Australia against France, Peru against France, Denmark against France...

Yeesh, this game might go to penalties as well. That's where Croatia shines, though.

Might? More like will. I can't really see either side changing how they are playing & scoring.

Then again, at this World Cup, just about anything is possible so... yeah, it might not go to penalties.

Off to extra time. This could head into penalties if the deadlock isn't broken in those 30 minutes.
2nd place finish in BoF 66. There's more to come! Hopefully..

Clear penalty. What on earth the goalkeeper debating?

This could be game over for Denmark. Such a shame.

Edit: What a save... this World Cup just never ceases surprising me.

Well off to penalties then... Croatia have been really underwhelming.

Never understood why the Croatian keeper jumps so far off of his line.

I mean I see how it could work... but it isn't working great right now.

Edit: Eh, that was a really good save. I guess its a 50/50 thing.

FINAL KICK LETS GOOOO

Mr Schmeichel didn't really make much of an effort in that attempt.

Yesss. Russia vs Croatia, just like I wanted.

It is a bit sad to see those depressed Denmark fans.

Aaaand that means that eight of FIFA's top 16 ranked teams are OUT OF THE WORLD CUP, with two more set to face the chop in the coming days and at least one facing the axe in the quarterfinals.
1. Germany - OUT thanks to a 2-0 loss at the hands of South Korea
2. Brazil - face Mexico tomorrow
3. Belgium - face Japan tomorrow
4. Portugal - OUT thanks to a loss to Uruguay
5. Argentina - OUT thanks to a loss to France
6. Switzerland - face Sweden tomorrow
7. France - face Uruguay in the quarters
8. Poland - OUT thanks to two defeats
9. Chile - WERE ALWAYS OUT as they failed to qualify for the World Cup
10. Spain - OUT thanks to a loss to Russia
11. Peru - OUT thanks to two defeats and Christian Cueva becoming Roberto Baggio for a few seconds
12=. Denmark - OUT thanks to a loss to Croatia
12=. England - face Colombia on Tuesday
14. Uruguay - face France in the quarters
15. Mexico - face Brazil tomorrow
16. Colombia - face England on Tuesday

I'm aware of the score, and having actually watched the game, I can tell you that it wasn't offense versus defense. 3/5 goals were scored throughout the game, symbolizing midfield play, at the 12th, 43rd, and 71st minute. The final two goals came in extra time, after Russia destroyed KSA psychologically. That's not what offense versus defense means.

Can you clarify what you mean there? I don't really understand what you're trying to say.

Also my point was that Saudi Arabia tried to play for a point. They failed miserably, course.

Except they didn't. They tried to win. And they lost. I saw the game. What I meant there, was to point out that the Russia-KSA game was played in the midfield, like a standard soccer game; the Russians were just better at converting. Much better.
