Honest question DCF, why do you, from your academic standpoint, believe that is so? I didn't startout as a syndicalist, but a rather run-of-the-mill marxist-leninist. As I got older, I found myself more drawn to syndicalism until I decided it best fit me and what I thought socialism should look like.

*BTW I started my life as a socialist around 8th grade, happy to say that I've been evolving as a socialist for over half of my life by this point.

I am basing what I wrote on the history of syndicalism itself, not any particular individuals. It also has nothing to do with being an academic. Syndicalism was started by Sorel as a left-wing movement, and it then moved to the right.

That said, anecdotally, of the syndicalists I have met, most moved left to right or rightish (like yourself), not right to left.

I was more of a Stalinist (though I wouldn't have used the term at the time) before I moved to syndicalism after conceding state socialism could not compete with market economics and a brief period as a capitalist before independently arriving at syndicalist conclusions, then discovering the name for them when I started talking about them.

My third positionism isn't sourced in my syndicalism, the discourse that drives me to those conclusions is sourced in the mens rights movement (rejection of feminist conceptions of sexism, belief in misandry and institutionalized discrimination against men as well as women, etc.), and Nationalism with Westernism, which has been a constant aspect of my politics.

I'd agree with you on the sydicalists who're regulars here (me, Ostro, and Oily) being third position-ish. Ostro is probably the most "left" of us three in the sense of not being authoritarian and having a more balanced revolution/demsoc tendency, Oily being a self professed fascist, I lay somewhere between those two, being more authoritarian that Ostro while still being revolutionary unlike Oily.

I likewise, wouldn't recommend libertarianism in any form though. I don't believe it has the force necessary to reform society, nor keep it socialist if it somehow does.

I like how I managed to somehow become a benchmark for political thought in LWDT; granted, it's more of a "Ye Dare Not Pass" one, but interesting all the same.

For me, my third positionism is a result of how I come to my conclusions, I have 3 control mechanisms; social conservatism, socialism, pragmatism. If an idea is too biased towards one, or incompatible with one, than I toss it out. I attempt to balance and harmonize all three.
