The market is a tool for distribution of goods and services, not degenerate paraphernalia.

... I swear, comrade Aillyria, it's a back massager.

List of items banned by the government for being degenerate paraphernalia:
  • Books that criticize the government, its policies, or a person in the government
  • Women's clothing that doesn't cover the ankles
  • Any form of anime or other entertainment from a foreign country
  • Clothing, trinkets, flags, etc. that represent ideologies like socialism, communism, capitalism, libertarianism, transgenderism, and homosexualism
  • Scientific tools

Add information (not advocacy for, simply pure information) about contraception and human sexuality.

Here's the thing. If you allow a government to ban things for being "degenerate," the second somebody with views that I listed gets into power they're going to ban all of the things that you don't want banned.
Also, you seriously believe in the misogynistic ankle ban??? :?

No, they don't. You're free to say anything you want, but not have anything you want (like narcotics are treated already).

Which is why narcotics should be legal. Also, banning people from owning something, which is required for speech using it, is anti-free speech.

That's why there are constitutions, Cekie. Things related to certain degenerative practices would be banned in constitutional articles.

And yes, I am a muslim after all.

I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable doing that, per se, but I'm all for decriminalization of all drugs.

It did bother me a bit how the show adapted the High Sparrow and his supporters. While the novels make it quite clear that they are fairly strict religious fundamentalists, not unlike Savonarola, the show really glossed over the socioeconomic dimension of their rise to power (which arguably made them more sympathetic) and pushed hard on the "ISIS of Westeros" angle. It felt a bit gratuitous and manipulative, specially when it came to their homophobia.

I thought there was a degree of that demonstrated in the series. What does it say in the books?

I thought the audience reaction was quite telling with them though. The gratuitous homophobia was very degrading to a sympathetic character, but it's interesting how that alone seemed to turn many viewers so quickly against "the mob". All the sorts of horrible and definitely gratuitous violence had been meted out by those aristocratic characters and their henchmen upon the poor seemed suddenly forgotten.

I still love the books... but good gawd is JK Rowling a prime example of why "death of the author" is a good idea.

Ah well I'm too old and grumpy to read them again, but I too have a soft spot for them I suppose.
