Well, I would not be surprised about that- left tends to be atheist, or agnostic. Of course, there's Christian communism too, and such, but usually religion is associated with right-wing.

Conservative religious practice, which gets most of the public's the attention, is associated with the right. However, historically, many of the greatest saints, heroes, and heroines who are now championed by some conservative religionists were anything but conservative. They broke with tradition and challenged religious authority. The same is true today.

Actually, DI seems to have put a good deal of thought into her positions and is definitely very intelligent, though I disagree with her on much.

The brand of Catholic Liberation Theology I ascribe to (it isn't a different denomination, btw - more like a subgroup within Catholicism) is technically apolitical, but with liberation theology and its history being what it is, there are some very prominent left-wing elements that fit in nicely with the Christian left, an emphasis on the preferential option for the poor with a focus on getting rid of inequality and systemic barriers preventing the poor from getting an even playing field in society.

I remember when Pope Paul tried his best to kill liberation theology in the 1960s and 1970s. For the most part, he succeeded, at least among the Latin American Jesuits.

Can I see some sources for that? Cause everything I learned about liberation theology came from Philippine Jesuits, some of whom were taught by Latin American Jesuits.
