Joking aside though, that kind of undercover takeover wouldn't be possible. People want their rights, they will fight for them if they feel downtrodden enough, where it goes from there is dependent entirely on the driving force/leader behind it. Also, totalitarianism's life blood is fear of an outside force, so a one leader absolute state would eventually falter if it either belittles its citizens enough to cause a popular revolution or doesn't have an external force to be afraid of.

I’m a Democrat through and through but the idea of having a central figure at the top who represents the nation, complete with all the trappings of monarchies and tradition, is cool to me. I’d never suppport a monarchy as a genuine form of government though

I wish liberals would do that; most of them don't go far enough with open borders. Borders should just be lines denoting which government controls what territory, and consequently what laws apply to what places. They shouldn't be walls that keep people from moving where they want to.

Also, property boundaries keep people from living places at least in the United States. That wouldn't make illeagal immigrants legal. It would make them squatters.
