It's true, my car is as big as some trucks, and street parking takes a little longer and has strung up local city traffic, but then again I suck at parallel parking. So, take it with a small packet of salt.

Is that in relation to the vehicle width affecting road capacity? Because in transportation engineering the vehicle width has no bearing on capacity measurements, if a vehicle is in the lane it's considered to be taking up the entire lane.

Last month, I got a friend to film the whole of the M25 at real speed (with me as a passenger), and I have recently finished the editing and uploaded the result up on YouTube. At the moment, I can only manage Full HD: I can do rendering in 4K, but would take more than a day even on a i7-8700K.

It is very rare to find a time when you could run the entire lap without hitting serious congestion: the M25 has a lot of junctions because when it was built, the planners were trying to please locals who live near the motorway (source). That means intercity freighters have to share lanes with local commuters and supermarket trippers.

It is sad that I do like to drive cars, but it is very likely that I will fail my medical because I take medication that affects my ability to drive.

The move to larger vehicles is hardly surprising. Given they vast improvements in mileage, as well as the oil glut means this expected. Especially as people are often taller and often heavier. They want more room. This is really the logical conclusion of the late 60s to early 70s boats, had no oil crisis intervened.

If one is tall and or overweight, a small car is often outright painful to nearly un drivable. I am actually only if average height (5’10”) and thinner but still find having a higher seat helps my back a lot.

Really unless going sports cars/muscle cars bigger is often better. To a point. Admittedly that cars are now getting bigger than parking spaces is an issue.

Speaking of did anyone mention this?
https://www.gmc.com/electric-truck/hummer-ev
A 1,000 HP all electric monster truck.

Although I am sure many will not be pleased, this is the future. Like it or not.

Actually big body on frame is ideal for electrics, as you have a tone of room to fit batteries underneath.

I mainly like the 4 wheel steering, that is something that I would like to see more of, with that you can easily parallel park a monster vehicle. Air suspension is nice too.

They're absurd, I see far too many lifted trucks and massive SUVs that are only used to drive to the grocery store. Endless money pits, bad for the environment, terrible in every way.

We went from Harvey Earl’s ‘long and low’ to ‘long and tall’
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I mean that is the only way to get a RWD body on frame monster these days. It is economical to use the same frame and much of the body as the pick up trucks.

But sure they have gotten much taller.
Which has some advantages, such as higher seats, more headroom. Better ground clearance.
The new Hummer is interesting though in having a built in air suspension. So you can raise it or drop it.

Although definitely they are more tall and boxy than their lower and sleeker 60s predecessors.

Still an overpowered body on frame RWD barge. Nothing more classic American than that.

Interesting note, the 4th generation Escalade ESV and and the 9th generation Eldorado have almost identical length and width, the difference is a fraction of an inch.

The Escalade is 1.3" wider and 2.8-3.9" longer, depending on the Eldo's year.

At 5993 lbs, it's also over 1100 lbs heavier.

Probably the most surprising thing I've seen inside a mall car park in a long time was a De Lorean while making a quick dash to get some batteries today. Was a daily driver too because the wheels had gunk over them.

Haven't seen anything fun at a mall in a long time, but whilst driving to the pet store today in my daily -- an '82 Rabbit Pickup -- I passed a guy going the other way in a metallic blue Corvair wagon. We flashed each other thumbs up.

Felt good man.
