I prefer the word "safe". That is what the AU Falcon looked like, which was the beginning of the end for the Falcon in Australia/NZ.

The ordinary businessmen often tend to forget that a carmaker needs some sort of image to be successful. An example is how Marchionne managed to turn FCA around by focusing Dodge on affordable, flashy performance, Alfa on sporty stylish cars, Jeep on badass-looking light trucks, etc...

Musk's vision at least helps that.

Nothing wrong with his vision. But he could do that as chairman.
The CEO needs more than just vision.
The CEO needs the organizational management skills to run the companies day to day operations, not just set forth a vision.
He can certainly hire someone who shares his vision for the role, but someone more knowledgeable about the specific problems involved with running a car company.

Morgan is planning an Aston Martin Vantage competitor.

Apparently, they're dithing wood and only leaving retro in the design.

They need more than a vision, elsewise the DeLorean would have been popular outside of the movies. They also need a workable car, and one that is deliverable on time.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, neither were particularly appetizing. And what they replaced the AU with ended up becoming just an anonymous blob.

You know, for as unloved as this car was when it came out and the derision it gets, for whatever reason that retroish Thunderbird has been holding at around that price for a while.

Staying in the topic of 50s retro, my aunt got herself a car - a 2015 Fiat 500. A greenish 1.4 automatic hatchback, to be exact. It's a 1957 special edition model, and has alloys made to look like old hubcapped steelies.

Went for a ride in it with my uncle, and was surprised by the legroom (though that's thanks to the high seating position) and how lively it was on the road in sport mode.

Neat, I always liked the Fiat 500.

Along with the A5 VW Beetle, I saw a brown convertible today with retro looking hubcap style wheels.

I see where they're coming from, Toyota has been giving them blue balls for the last six years about a new Supra only to reveal it's just a Z4 with mostly the same performance of the A80 that came out 25 years ago.

A base Supra was no better than a 5.0 Mustang. I get it with the Turbo, but I think it's almost like a Delorean, but without the cocaine fueled executive, the movie overhyped it.

But yeah the Fiat is definitely too cute.

New Beetle/Fiat 500/other sweet cars - official cars of smooth jazz, inspirational posters, Yankee Candle and Desiderata.

I'm wondering what would reflect my personality.
Does anyone know the official car of 70s classic rock, folded-out futons, procrastination and junk food?

Fair enough. But I am not a sweet person.
So would never drive a Fiat. Though I barely even see them here anymore.
Fiat had an aggressive advertising campaign but they never really caught on.

Americans are not a sweet people for the most part.

Except it did not. Despite the racey ads they have not sold well here.
It is hard to convince Americans a small hatch back is sexy.

The Escalade is American, loud, proud and large, rolling V8 powered and covered in chrome.

The Prius at least appeals to the green types.

I am not sure really what market they are going for with the Fiat 500 in the US.

Small car enthusiasts and cute girls/women, I guess.

My aunt bought it partially for the looks, and partially for the automatic. It is an US import.

Small car enthusiasts and cute girls, I guess.

I guess, though again most Americans are really not a cute people.
Cute girls are more likely to drive a crossover.
Which I guess are cute compared to a Silverado or Escalade.

Fiat is on the verge of being driven out of the US market.
They sold less than 5,000 base 500s this year.
Their sales numbers are a joke.

As far as small car enthusiasts, there are better made, better performing cars out there.
Though small cars are a dying market here.

Novus America represents my vision of an awesome Atompunk near future United States of America expanded to the entire North American continent, Guyana and the Philippines. The population would be around 700 million.
Think something like prewar Fallout, minus the bad stuff.

Politically I am an independent. I support what is good for the country, which means I cannot support either party.
