The R8 looks like a Lamborghini Jalpa crossbred with an Austin Princess and I absolutely fuckin' love it.

I'd rock that i8. I'd consider the Viper. A little too Camaro in the front, though.

Chevrolet Corvette the official car of "I'm a 54 year old divorced dad from the Midwest and this is pretty dang cool."

In seriousness, the Corvette is a relatively cheap V8 sports car, but that means you get a crappy GM interior and it's not a refined car for what it tries to be.

I don't like the Corvette myself, but I hate this line of reductive thinking. First of all, with the exception of trainwreck garbage 'Vettes, of which there are plenty because anything above a C4 doesn't hold value and some C3s push it, you can't afford a Corvette when you're young (no, this is not the same as not being able to buy any new car until you're in your fucking 50s, that's an actual problem), sports cars take money and usually when you get to the point you can afford them you can't because you hauled off and had kids like a sucker, so yeah, a lot of people have to put off their dreams of sports car ownership until their 40s or 50s. They should forgo that because someone thinks they should have bought the car in their youth? Fuck that. Fuuuuuuuuck that. I'm not resigning myself to a boring car because some Clyde thinks I'm too old for it. Sure, I hate Corvettes, but if Corvettes are your thing, Corvette it up. No shame to your game no matter your age. When my buddy's dad bought a Corvette Grand Sport after his adult children had moved out I had never seen a happier dude. Fuck trying to rob him of that because we want to make some ageist slam against him. I want to be that happy. I don't even care that it was a Corvette, and I hate Corvettes. Liking a Corvette does not require my approval. It's their car, let them enjoy their shit.

Auzkhia wrote:In seriousness, the Corvette is a relatively cheap V8 sports car, but that means you get a crappy GM interior and it's not a refined car for what it tries to be.

They've gotten better, especially since they've been sports car racing and trying to win sports car championships and endurance races, but the dynamic that Corvette drivers like I hate, the whole "propelled by dynamite" aspect of the car. But again, to each their own. That's why they make different kinds of cars, people like different shit.

I'll keep that in mind. I mean even keeping the WRC stable in mind my shortlist still had the Yaris and i20 on it.

I'm not vomiting, but I do have to say "Yaris" in that weird voice they announced the car with in the US. You cats probably didn't get those ads.

Wow, I went to see if I could find it...pretty much EVERYONE had way weirder Yaris ads. Good job, other markets.

It takes some money to buy a new Corvette, it is relatively cheap but still not cheap.
Which means older people are more likely to have the money.

Also the Corvette is not supposed to be too refined. It is supposed to have a bit of a unrefined nature.

Maybe I could have one as a second fun car for autocrossing, it'd have to be a hell of a good deal. Maybe when the C7 gets cheap on the second hand market.

However, here's one question? Why get one over a Camaro SS? Especially now, aside from special versions, what's the differences between a base Corvette and a V8 Camaro SS (base Camaros have the V6 and turbo i4). What are the real differences.

At Ford, you just have the Mustang as its performance work horse. There used to be the Thunderbird and GT, but those evolved differently and the most recent GT is a rare exotic.

At Dodge, it's the Challenger and Charger. There was the Viper, but that's dead.

Actually the Viper shall live again.

I think Ford should bring back the T Bird, but this time based on the gen 2, and basically have it be a prettier mustang, which addresses the volume issue and also appeals to those who think the Mustang does not match their personality.

You make a valid point about the high end Camaros and Vettes overlapping.
Though the mid engine Vette should resolve this.
Still the Corvette is lighter and lower, so even with the same engine it still will be a better performer, especially on the turns.

They are designed to appeal to different market segments. The Corvette is for the sports car buffs, the Camaro's for the muscle car group.

Again? We'll see.

The Thunderbird's already taken, the Mustang is that, with the Focus ST and RS filling in that role spiritually. The Mustang was a Falcon, and then based on the Pinto, both were compact cars. If you really think about what roles the models served as. Personally, I think a Lincoln version would make more sense, a Mark IX, a revived Thunderbird would either be redundant or have to go upmarket.

A rear mid engine (Corvettes since the C4 are technically midengined, but in front of the driver but behind the front axle) would be like the GT, and would make sense for that market, I don't think they will make it the sole Corvette.
Also prices matter, a base Camaro SS is $37k (turbo 4 is $25k), and a base Corvette is $55k.

However, if I were buying a V8 Chevy, I'd find a Caprice PPV at an auction or an SS.

New Ford V8, a 7.3 liter OHV made for super duty trucks.

It make sense for trucks and what an engine needs to do, low reving engines are ideal.

Is hydrogen the future? Maybe.

I do not think hydrogen is the future.
It has the lowest density of anything.
It is extremely reactive.
It would require a complete reworking of all infrastructure.

I suppose you could combine it with oh say carbon to make it more dense and stable...
Something like a hydrocarbon...

On Craigslist the other day there was an ad for Mustang that looked suspiciously like a Lincoln...
