He didn't quell them, though. It's never even recorded that he ordered them to be quelled. The hadith simply says he said to shun them.

I can't find anything saying that the prophet ever did anything beyond censuring them.

Either they were too small of a group to be dealt with or there aren't aHaadith him doing so. That law still remains tho.
