I never considered Navy personally because I’m claustrophobic and the idea of living on a ship irks me. I’m not going to do this as a career, tbh, but if I do, I’m going officer. I’m pretty set to be making quite a bit of money with a future career in the CIA or NSA. The Army’s just a stepping stone for me to become a better human.

I'm Canadian so the marines probably isn't an option, but yeah officer would be what I would aim for. No way you could get me on a ship in the modern battlefield, floating metal coffins are what they are nowadays if two modern nations were to go to war.

If shit hits the fan and I get placed in a tactical unit (which I actually want to happen in the event that we go to war with Russia), then I’ll be the one guy in the platoon with the giant radio pack and protruding radar array, ie, the biggest target. If I’m gonna die don’t try to tell me some bullshit about me being fine, tell me my insides have been blown out about 10 meters behind my body and that I should already be dead. But anyway thank you for your decision, keeping good people alive out there.

Ships have plenty of defenses tbf, especially when moving in a formation with various other warships. What you really don’t want is to get stuck in a submarine. Those guys get huge bonuses but they’re also quite likely to completely lose their sanity.

Yeah but I just think of the Falklands war every time I here someone recommend the navy, given that was over 30 years ago now. Subs I'll never understand, takes testis and ovaries of steel to do that job, but like you said that's about all you'll have left when you're done.

Full time student, have worked a number of sorta basic jobs as most students in my country do (Whole Foods and a toy store for me), and at the moment I'm looking for a different summer job while I work on menial real estate stuff and intern. I have my real estate license, but am holding off on actually going into any sort of real-estate brokerage until I'm out of college.

Don't know if it really counts as a job, but I volunteer at my local Scout Group and have done so for almost two years. I don't earn anything from it but it's good work experience for when I do enter the world of work.

I work in retail because I'm a listless idiot in spite of my supposedly genius level IQ.

Well, "work" might be an exaggeration, since the manager has been severely blue balling me on hours. When I was constantly covering for call outs and no shows I was a hero, but after three waves of majority staff turnover finally brought in employees who actually show up, I suddenly became dog shit.

I thought the point of doing your job well and with a pleasant attitude was to be rewarded for it, but apparently not. Just about everyone who works or shops there is glad to see me on the register, except for the person who makes the schedule. Go figure

Job hunting's pretty stressful when I have to choose between using my only job as a reference and risking the manager lying to make me look bad (because she already lies about, among other things, what we did or didn't do on the clock), or not using it as a reference, which also makes me look bad.

I think I may consider being an English teacher, actually. In Germany, though, because then I will be paid and would also be a good teacher for English. Or I stay in America and become a history teacher. Honestly, I have a lot of time before I even finish high school. I can think about this.

As of now (17) I'm applying for a full-time job in the RAF but don't see me staying there forever =/

I've been a busy little bee for a while. I currently have two official jobs, working at Subway and Sacristan for my Parish part-time, but also am working under the table as a car washer for my dad's friend's construction company and a fishing mate.

I dreamed of going to the USMA(United States Military Academy, aka Westpoint) because I wanted a career in the military as an officer. It didn't pan out due to a variety of factors, including family. Wanted to do ROTC but unfortunately after the whole Vietnam War fiasco, a lot of colleges in the North-East US ditched the program and have only slowly adopted them, meaning there'd be like one college with the program and a bunch of colleges affiliated with it(which was impractical for me because there was no way I'd make it to my college and to the ROTC program without losing a lot of time in my day and putting tons of miles on my car).

I just settled for studying the field of military topics, extending into international affairs(but with a focus on strategic studies and national security). I get the exposure even if I don't get the service I had hoped for. My current job is a self-employed business consultant(I have a dedicated client on contract that sustains me but I've got a bigger project I'm working on). I got to this point after an epiphany after having worked with somebody for a few years where I handled all the general tasks and strategy planning and realized it was something I liked to do but would rather do for myself.

I can't complain, I like the kind of work I do and the kind of pay I'm earning. It helps fund my independent research(books, journals, and traveling to conventions can grow costly) and gives me time to work on other things(like getting my degree because I was not fond of my first college and ditched it after they failed to make a persuasive argument. And some time to work on my "novels", which are more like half-baked ideas that have only a few thousand words). I'd be a bit more comfortable if I wasn't holding up my family too since my parents and sibling are a bit of a drain on the coffers(and don't put much in), but at least I'm not in the red at the end of the day.
