As a way-left democratic socialist whose side of the political spectrum would gain an extreme amount of influence from this, hell no.
This nation in no way represents my IRL political views.

Holy shit, it actually made the ballot. I'm voting no! My everyday commute would literally turn into an interstate commute. Doesn't affect me much but still a dumb idea.

California has been able to lead the rest of the country in many aspects. There's a saying, "So California goes, so goes the rest of the country." California has been able to accomplish so much and even become a world leader in green energy, using it to even grow its economy. California has its own financial capital in San Fransisco, a booming tech industry in Silicon Valley (One that Austin Texas aspires to compete with, but can't seem to do, as businesses prefer silicon valley for its hustle), Countless Universities and centers of learning, the capital of the entertainment industry, the largest harbor on this side of the pacific (i.e. the western coast of the ENTIRE Americas), which is also the biggest harbor in the country. California is home to the central valley, which has a year-round growing season and grows a staggeringly large proportion of the country's vegetables, for example -- it grows 84 percent of the country’s fresh peaches and 94 percent of the country’s fresh plums. It produces 99 percent of the artichokes grown in the United States, and 94 percent of the broccoli, and that's just a small portion of the long list of vegetables. It is a state riddled with many beautiful natural sites, as well as many dense urban cities, the place has lots of tourism and it is well adapted to climate change relative to other parts of the world. LA is the country's third largest oil producer. Apple, Disney, Google -- All Californian. Folks, there's a reason why we're the 5th largest economy.

Splitting all of that into 3 rather large but still average states with their one little anchor city? Bullshit!

I love this state and everything it stands for. And splitting the rather poor central parts of the state, leaving them to fend for themselves is not something California stands for. I'm voting no on this.
A 6.3 civilization, according to this index.
Magiscience/FanT/FT
Theme/Aesthetic: Think of Theatre Masks, jewelry and cult-like robes, and make a sci-fi country out of it.
Government: Think democratically elected pope, except it's an unorthodox cult.
People: Traditional, Reserved, Soft-speakers.
Elites: Fine wines, wax candles, hallways of gold, violet, ruby, emerald. Parties inspired by the Greek God Dionysus. A conservative, elegant, mardi gras all day, every day.
Common Folk: A contrast to the above--Dark, medieval style alleys. Small, cold, metallic apartments, prone to collapse on terrestrial worlds, or platforms prone to falling to the depths on jovian ones.

Huh, bought his way onto the ballot. Can he buy his way to victory? Nah.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Means extra senators, so it should require the same process as admitting new states to the union.

I imagine the referendum would be followed by some intense constitution writing and congressional arguments

I live in California and I hate it here, can’t wait to leave. (Although I do admit that the National Parks/forests are beautiful) Basically we already have 1 California too many, we do not need 3. :lol2:

The worst thing about this idea is that I would have to pay out of state tuition for UCLA. Just don't.

Better idea: Return California to territorial status and use the boys at Oceanside to make some societal adjustments.

The odds of this passing are extremely unlikely and even if it did there is little to no chance the legislature would approve it.

This ludicrous idea is supported by only a tiny fringe of the population. Even red counties will vote against it.

I'm ambivalent, leaning towards supporting, as I think California should have more senators representing it, and this would shift it to 6 senators. Ultimately it's a decision for Californians.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.
