My last point is correct, splitting the state does nothing for the GOP, and it bolsters the Democrats, basically handing them 4 Senate seats. I've made up my mind. I'm against the initiative.

The real question should be why not? Why should someone living in a rural farmland be dictated by what someone in LA or SF says or does like they do now?

There needs to be a very compelling set of reasons to split up a state, because it's a big deal to do something like that.

Yes, it is frustrating to live in a state that leans differently than you do. Since politics is so polarized, you may feel completely disenfranchised in your state government, and your vote basically counts for nothing in presidential elections. This not a problem unique to California, though.

I'm for a degree of swaraj; not so much we dissolve the Union entirely, but enough that we add some more stars to the flag, so the first part of that sentence doesn't really bother me at all, since it's not that bad an idea.

Why not break up New York or Virginia? Break up Maryland and turn the Eastern shore into its own state while we are it.

Or make New Castle County in Delaware its own state? That way the people in the other two counties would have more say.
