Nay, every community shall be divided into roughly 250 people, which means the cities and towns will be cut to pieces. We'll have millions of states :^)))

We actually have an extremely important, and intriguing election, and yet it's crap like this that gets a 16 page thread on NSG...

Ok, WRA, since you're here, serious question: what do you think of John Cox?

He claims to be a Jack Kemp Republican, didn't come off as an asshole in the debates, and Democrats can't find anything bad to say against him. During the debates he was on point, asking why Californians should foot medical bills of illegal immigrant felons, asking why building roads in California is four times as expensive as in Texas, asking why prison dentists earn $800,000 per year, and so on...

You could start with the Gubernatorial Debate, I was actually impressed by the quality of everyone, except for the Trojans acting like Villaragosa's cheerleaders, and his comments egging them on... Villaragosa failed in the race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdepV5jBiy8

Have you seen the proposed map? It's essentially what we have, with more chaos, more confusion, and more insanity. It's like driving through Californian Potholes, but you're drunk, instead of sober.

No.

And why are you always so preoccupied with where I live? Kind of creeps me out, tbh. I remember in a previous thread you also asked which state I live in.

Where you live gives insight to your views. Californians are weird about many things. His hard core views on religion will be off putting to many. Especially in the areas of abortion and lgbt.

Not going to bring in Newsom simply because Cox is the subject so what I see with Cox not going to win.

He is a transplant and I get the impression he doesn't grasp a few things on how they work. Housing for example. We need more. Cox is against rent control and that's in place in a few areas. The question of it being valid is not a topic of debate for the elections. He has to have solutions else loose those voters. Cox doesn't want to force local goverments to accept more housing. The problem with that is we have some of the biggest NIMBY groups around. He needs stronger, clearer views on fixing housing

On education, Cox doesn't seem to have much. His improvements seem to the more charters and the cliche of bring competition to education. Not going to go well as many people are already annoyed we teach to the test now. He will need a road map and a recognizable vision for public schools.

On criminal justice issues, Cox is highly critical of sanctuary state laws which limit cooperation with ICE. ICE has a bad name here. There is talk of bail reform. Cox is against that. Cox thinks on the matters of police shootings, the police can handle the investigations.

Cox is also a big donnie supporter. Many don't like donnie. Let's not overlook we seem to like democrats these days.

Granted these are quick comments mainly to answer and give you an idea as to why Cox is not a shoe in.

This is a tangent to the thread though I believe.....

Every county should be its own state. 3,142 states sounds about right.

My apologies. There is still virtually no chance this passes. It reminds me of the proposals to split New York in two. A vocal minority wants it but there is little to no support among the populous.

I'm actually quite surprised this made it onto the ballot. Really don't expect a "yes" vote come November, but fuck man, crazier things have happened. Still very unlikely, of course, and if somehow Californians voted yes, how the hell would the federal government even go about splitting up the state? I don't know if they could or would.

To make it easier, they should just name one of the new states "New California" or something similar...

One gigantic practical problem with this initiative: the California State Water Project would need to be reorganized and water disputes would flare up immediately between these new states.

The populous coast will never go for it. This will drive up turnout in the Bay Area and Los Angeles County likely ensuring it fails. Polls have shown even a overwhelming majority in rural parts of the state is against this ludicrous idea.

If it was approved the state legislature would have to approve it. Then Congress would have to vote yes and then the President signs it. The state legislature would never approve it though.

That's also not getting into logistics like someone from San Diego would now pay out of state tuition to go to UC Berkeley or the issue of water rights, agriculture and countless other things. The hassle and chaos is just not worth it which is why it will most likely fail.

I was asking a legitimate question, lad. We haven't seen a state split since WV back in 1863. And that only happened because of an 1861 vote at the start of the Civil War, only for that reason was secession from Virginia successful.

Just sayin', in the slim, slim chance, California votes yes to this proposal, I don't see any way the state or federal government would actually go through with "splitting" California. You'd have to have both the state and federal government vote yes on this, so I don't see how anyone thinks this could happen.

Yeah I know, it was a little joke. But I entirely agree, no good can come from arbitrarily splitting a state into pieces.
