But... don't most Irish citizens drink on weekdays?

Common misconception!

So it's against the innate nature of the people to actually enjoy what they're drinking?

Meanwhile in America of United States we're repeatedly told that alcohol is bad and then when Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick's day come around everyone goes out for a drink. Everyone

Ireland has an alcohol problem sadly not taken seriously enough and instead fobbed off as craic and cultural, yes.

I can't judge, I merely try to stay on the functional side of alcoholism because funnily enough I'll die otherwise, but it is sometimes a sad thought that creeps to the forefront of the national psyche.

But then somebody brings along a bottle of Buckfast, and all is well again.

Does anyone genuinely enjoy the taste of Guinness? Most Irish ciders will corrode your insides in one night, too.

It's a good thing.

Heh, you've reminded me of a past adventure. This was Bordeaux now mind, but I remember one teenage drinking session in the forests and the subsequent stumble home. Path blocked by a boar, I was very hazy drunk so this is a tale relied upon by sketchy flashbacks and the testimonials of the equally plastered but one lad threw himself forward as tribute and was promptly chased through the trees by the savage thing so the rest of us could press on.

After having visited a few supermarkets and a hypermarché in Normandy, I can confirm that there is that much beer in France. Many of the brands sold are German or Belgian, but it is available in great quantities.
