Not enough cardio, too much singing for my liking. Much easier to just follow the Catholic herd miming when the worst case scenario happens and you actually know somebody enough to get invited to the dreaded service half of a wedding day.

Heh. I actually got into a mass in Polish that way.

I did not understand anything (except when the priest when to English a bit), but I recognized the tunes.

But then stayed back together with other Dutchies of my generation when the communion happened.

That hosti thingy is bread. I'm on a diet, jeez. No carbs.

Too much singing, you say? Don't tell this to the devout fishermen of Urker Mannenkoor "Hallelujah".

Can't we make Urk an island again and move it out to the North Sea? Somewhere around Doggerland would do.

Yes, well, Chris Tomlin/Matt Redman are sort of a typically Protestant thing.

That is most definitely a choice in attire.

A strange, disturbing choice.

I've spent time with the undocumented tribes of the Gaeltacht islands, I can only sympathise.

There's not enough sex and violence in contemporary Christian music.

The Dutch authorities took care of the Urker island by means of the usual solution: more polders. The fishing industry is still a prominent part of Urker society, as is the Protestant Church. The Gereformeerde Protestant Church, to be exact. It's a Dutch thing. The Hervormde Protestant Church is older and actually less conservative, but the problem with 'gereformeerd' and 'hervormd' is that they both translate as 'reformed' in English.

I remember back in the 1990s, before I hit my teens and realized I'm gay, I used to listen to Contemporary Christian music and go to church. I don't remember any violence in the music.

It's just shrouded in euphemism. Some of it's not even that subtle.
