Joe Scarborough on the AR 15

The AR-15 was developed as a military weapon to replace the M-14. Eugene Stoner designed it to be lighter and more lethal than the M-14.

If New Zealand's gun laws are looser than Australia's, I'm surprised that no one has managed to take a boat and illegally smuggle in forbidden weaponry into Australia. Geographically, the distance doesn't seem too far between the two countries. More trouble that it's worth?

The main obstacle if illegally crossing, is evading each nation's coast guard or navys. The black market will usually try to supply anything that's illegal if its in enough demand, but at a sky high price to compensate for risks of acquisition and for obscene profit margin.

The army uses FMJ ammunition ( Full metal jacket ) which is made of Cupronickel, Brass or copper alloy, With the logic being is that it takes three soldiers out of action if you hit one guy whom you can save taking up more resources then a dead body, Welcome to warfare. :twisted:

So really it depends on what type of ammunition you use in the AR-15 that would make it "more" lethal.

I'm more in favor of FMJ than hollow point ammo. Sure, FMJ is comparatively less lethal- but if you shoot someone with it, chances are they'll still die if wounded lethally. But if they survive, the wound profile is cleaner and that helps any medic or surgeon that might attend to them.
