whoa whoa whoa did we just turn the GCIII thread into the anarchist cookbook? I did try that too but lit in a brick pit I built near the woods so my parents wouldn't see but dammit they found out I burned something and nothing more.

Nah, nothing like that, perhaps times were a bit more adventurous back in the days of yore and sometimes with adult help.

adventurous is shooting your neighbors garage door with a simple bb gun, or almost blowing up your relatives car or yourself with fireworks at there place in the countryside.

Back in my day, we'd use rubber band guns that the local nerd made for 10 bucks a gun

Then everyone started using real guns and things got bad.

Lol you know what? Bring it on, bitch (to Pelosi).
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

It isnt as if he's creating these powers.

While not creating them, he is obviously not using them as intended. Now you can blame congress for not fixing them, especially after the supreme court struck down parts of the original. Specifically the president has only twice before used funds not given over by congress in a national emergency, for the Gulf War and 9/11.

The worry that a future president could declare a national emergency to get what they want done, and congress won't fund, is very real.

I mean he has declared the emergency, and is almost certainly going to go forward with attempting to build the wall using funds allocated that way. We will have to see how this plays out in the Courts, House and Senate. I can still say I think it is a worrying overreach of power, and I hope congress fixes it eventually. I really don't like the idea of a president being able to take funding from FEMA and the Department of Defense to use as he sees fit, including the ability to seize private property, when congress has specifically denied that funding. In this situation a president only needs to deny the opposition a 2/3rds majority and they can do a lot.

The fact that it's an overreach is exactly why I want him to do it.
