So really it depends on what type of ammunition you use in the AR-15 that would make it "more" lethal.

thats kind of the basic rundown of ammunition ( not really  )

But just to point out a shotgun with a Buckshot or a slug will do WAAAAYYYY more damage then a rifle ( Discounting headshots :lol2: )

Or, alternatively. They use FMJ because the Hague Convention prohibits other bullet typea?

Yes they did indeed ban non FMJ ammunition from the battle field, i would think because it is more inhumane then was necessary, probably same reason they banned chemical weapons.

But mostly i was just trying to point out that any AR or "army" rifle is not really that dangerous compared to other weapons.

The move to the 5.56x45 was ultimately a compromise with lessons learned during WWII, with most engagements taking place at 300 meters or less, along with reducing weight in both ammo and firearm.

Joe being joe, decided to spread his ignorance far and wide would have noticed that the M14 was the more lethal firearm had he done what most people do, look shit up.
Lets compare shall we:

AR-15
— bullet diameter 0.223 inches
— bullet weight 55 grains
— muzzle energy 1,200 foot-pounds

M-14
— bullet diameter 0.300 inches
— bullet weight 150 grains
— muzzle energy 2,700 foot-pounds

Nah, the wound profile is usually about the same. The treatment mentholodgy for hollow point, FMJ, JHP, ect. are the same, and you usually do not stich the entire wound cavity up.

Victory in Infantry warfare is predicated upon volume of fire. The adaption of the AR-15 was intended to replace the frankly pitiful M-14 rifle with a rifle that could compete on the world stage with much better rifles already in use. Even by Western Battle Rifle standards the M14 was a spectacular failure of technological, political, military, and industrial capabilities and produced a rifle that was not only not meaningfully equal to any market alternative, but was demonstrably worse than almost every national service rifle that fit within the sphere of a modern rifle spectrum as of its adoption.

5.56x45mm is not any less meaningfully lethal than 7.62x51mm Ball ammunition at typical combat ranges. 5.56x45mm ball actually produces a wound volume that is significantly larger for its mass and volume than 7.62x51mm-its far more efficient. Add to this that same-for-same you can carry twice as much ammunition in a 5.56x45mm rifle than you can a 7.62x51mm for only volume, and the adoption of the (X)M16 in 1963 makes absolute perfect sense.

Should have used the Kraut 7.92x33. Truly master race ammo. /sarcasm

Though, yes. M14 is rather shit. I mean, in the face of rifles like AK, its rate of fire in a change in warfare where volume of fire is greater than the personal marksman, M14 was the stop-gap rifle. Not bad in its own right, just out dated in a changing environment.
