Right, because there's nothing on top of a tank turret that can be damaged by extreme heat and flame, like a radio antenna or machine gun mounting.

And there's no engine air intakes or radiators that the smoke and burning propellant can get into and damage the engine.

A wall of flame also won't destroy vision.

The M1 is filtered and partially sealed, but the way a molotov achieves it's goal is not by killing the tank or the crew but by rendering them mission-ineffective. Can't see, can't shoot. Mission ineffective. Turret damage? Mission-ineffective.

IEDs work the same way. Yeah the goal is to kill the tank but it's perfectly acceptable to blow a tread off, or damage the engine. Either way, the tank is immobile and therefore mission-ineffective.

They aren't air tight, they are water tight to a degree but generally would require additional work to be carried out to be able to ford rivers (fording kit including snorkel). While a Molotov cocktail would not be very efficient at completely knocking out a modern tank, because they are designed with that eventuality in mind, it can still have some effect. As already mentioned radios, machine gun mountings, ammo, and personnel equipment are all commonly attached or stored on the outside. This is not to mention that tank commanders like to keep their heads out because it gives them better fields of vision than staying inside. The fire and/or smoke in the engine to mobility kill a tank is rather hard and uncommon, but similar things have happened to modern tanks. Enough fire can also block the vision ports of a tank, making it harder to maneuver and fire small arms attacks definitely tends to drive away supporting infantry which makes the tanks job a lot harder.

TL;DR: Molotov Cocktails are inefficient and unlikely to get any form of kill, but can slow and degrade a tanks capabilities.

Yup. But I’m still correct that we don’t have a 100% airtight tank, sans oxygen supply system. Because if we did my job as a medic would have been a lot worse than it was

Because if they where 100% airtight it would kill anyone in there as there wouldn’t be any air to breathe. So unless you installed an oxygen supply system you can’t have a 100% airtight tank

NBC systems work by over pressuring the vehicle, making it so air leeks out not in. So long as the filters on the vehicle hold out overpressure is a very efficient way to keep a vehicle (up to ship size) NBC safe without having to worry about making it air tight (which is rather hard).

Ya know if the Abrams was airtight the Marines would have made a game of it by now. “Who can stay in the airtight tank the longest” beer would most definitely be involved

I think people should be able to own muskets, at any time they want. Assault rifles should be banned, but since muskets are single shot, then people can carry those at any capacity and time they want. Same with Flintlock Pistols.

Or we could always go that one route that Japanese Commander did and just straight up take a Katana and take out the crew that way./s
